Job description
About Us

SGB is an innovative and tech-focussed digital bank that is reshaping the new financial ecosystem with the goal of serving as a nexus between traditional and digital financial services. We aim to be the most trusted banking partner within the fintech and digital assets space and to build a one-stop solution providing comprehensive banking, payment, treasury and custody solutions for the new economy. We are looking out for forward thinking and like-minded builders to join our fast-growing team.

About the role

We are looking for a highly-motivated senior legal counsel to fill a multi-disciplinary role within our small but dynamic legal team supporting a fast-growing digital bank. The role will be based in Singapore and reports directly to the General Counsel.

The role will support the General Counsel on advising business teams on a variety of matters, including financial regulations, legal risks, innovative and bespoke banking products, corporate, tech and commercial matters, fund raising, M&A deals, corporate governance and other projects. You will get the opportunity to work directly with senior management and stakeholders on a wide range of exciting projects and high-value work within a relatively flat organisation.

This will be a rare opportunity to work collaboratively with other talented colleagues to build a rapidly expanding digital bank. There will be plenty of cross-border work, as well as opportunities to interact with and learn from a diverse group of colleagues across different teams.

Your responsibilities
  • Provide clear and practical legal advice to senior management and business teams on a variety of legal issues, including financial regulations, products, corporate, commercial and tech related matters, fund raising, M&A deals and corporate governance.
  • Work closely with the general counsel to identify and address legal risks.
  • Advise senior management and business teams on legal and regulatory aspects of the bank’s business strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-border teams to support strategic initiatives across the bank.
  • Draft and/or review bank policies, product T&Cs, disclaimers, internal templates and internal processes to ensure regulatory compliance and good corporate practices.
  • Partner with business and product teams to review, draft, and negotiate a variety of contracts, such as partnership agreements, commercial agreements and vendor agreements.
  • Engage and manage external counsel on a wide variety of matters.
  • Assist on corporate governance matters for the group’s entities.
  • Conduct legal research from time to time on new market entry, cross-border issues and regulatory matters.
  • Stay up to date on legal developments in the APAC region and assist with the preparation of impact analysis from time to time.
  • Support initiatives relating to business expansion.
Key Requirements
  • Bachelor's/Master’s Degree/JD from a reputable law school
  • Qualified in Singapore
  • At least 7 to 10 years PQE
  • Prior experience at a top-tier law firm and/or in-house legal team, preferably in a financial services-related industry
  • Relevant experience in financial regulations and financial services
  • Willing to work in a dynamic and multi-disciplinary role
  • Strong work ethic, ability to self-manage and work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Highly- and self-motivated lawyer that does not mind being hands-on in a start-up culture
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Proficiency in mandarin is an advantage
Benefits
  • Competitive compensation package
  • Corporate medical and dental insurance plan
  • Health and wellness benefits
  • Health screening and vaccination benefits
