About the Role:

A leading higher education institution is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented communications professional to support multi-platform storytelling across print, web, and social media.

In this role, you will collaborate with senior leadership to produce compelling content that highlights research breakthroughs, student achievements, and impact stories in engineering, technology, and innovation. The work spans science writing, digital content creation, and basic web content management, perfect for someone who enjoys translating complex ideas into engaging narratives and user-friendly digital experiences.

The ideal candidate has curiosity and initiative, with a genuine interest in science, engineering, and emerging technologies. A keen ability to learn about new research areas and communicate them clearly will be highly valued.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Key Responsibilities may include:

1. Editorial & Storytelling

  • Research, draft, and edit stories for web, magazine, and social platforms, highlighting students, alumni, and research breakthroughs.
  • Assist in developing newsletters, press releases, and faculty features with consistent tone and accuracy.
  • Fact-check, proofread, and maintain editorial consistency.

2. Digital & Social Media

  • Produce content for platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook and YouTube.
  • Draft engaging captions, manage content calendars, and track analytics for social performance.
  • Support photo/video shoots and basic editing (CapCut, Adobe products, or Canva).
  • Assist in crafting data-driven recommendations for content strategy improvements.

3. Website & Digital Experience

  • Participate in the update and maintenance of the College of Engineering’s website.
  • Optimise page layouts for clarity, SEO, and accessibility; ensure mobile responsiveness and editorial accuracy.
  • Apply UI/UX best practices to improve navigation and content readability.
  • Audit and tag content for searchability and analytics tracking.

4. Analytics & Reporting

  • Track and interpret performance metrics using Google Analytics, Meta Insights, LinkedIn Analytics, and UTM parameters.
  • Support the creation of monthly dashboards or content performance summaries.
  • Use data insights to inform editorial and social strategy.

5. Liaise across Schools

  • Coordinate materials and processes across 4 schools.
  • Coordinate amplification efforts to get the most out of storytelling efforts.

6. Strategic Support and Process Improvement

  • Contribute to the review and streamlining of processes to enhance efficiency.
  • Prepare presentations, reports, and briefing materials for committees and leadership.
  • Maintain comprehensive databases and management information systems for communications organisation.
  • Support ad-hoc projects and initiatives related to communications at the college level.

WORKING HOURS

  • Mondays to Thursdays :8.30am to 5.45pm
  • Fridays :8.30am to 5.15pm (with 45 mins – 1 hour lunch breaks)

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

  • A recognised university degree, preferably in engineering, journalism or a related field.
  • At least 3-5 years of relevant experience.

Skills & Competencies

Have a majority or strong selection of the following:

  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex technical content into clear, engaging language.
  • Interest in science, engineering, and technology - curiosity and initiative in learning about new research are essential.
  • Experience in social media content creation, including short form video
  • UI/UX knowledge is advantageous
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Premiere Pro, Photoshop) or Canva/CapCut.
  • Strong organisational skills and an eye for detail across copy, layout, and visuals.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects, work independently, and collaborate with academic and creative professionals.
