Job description

Chugai Pharmabody Research Pte. Ltd. (“CPR”) was established in Singapore as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd (Chugai), a member of the Roche group, in January 2012 and started operations on July 2, 2012. Located at Biopolis in Singapore, it aims to generate new antibody drugs based on Chugai’s proprietary antibody engineering technologies, such as recycling antibody, sweeping antibody, bispecific antibody, various Fc engineered antibodies, and other new antibody engineering technologies that are under development.

Position – Senior Scientist in Lead Optimization Unit

CPR is seeking a scientist with expertise in protein engineering.

Job requirements

The applicant should be highly skilled in at least one of the following areas:

  • Strong and proven expertise in structural biology and molecular biology for protein structure/function investigation.
  • Advanced knowledge in protein and/or antibody engineering, including but not limited to rational or random mutagenesis engineering approach.
  • Expertise in protein biochemistry, protein expression, purification, and characterization.
  • Strong organizational skills to deal with large amounts of data and excellent communication and collaborative skills, as well as a team player mindset for working with cross-functional multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge and skill of high-throughput systems, automation, and/or general scripting language is a plus but not a must.
  • Knowledge and skill of cell biology, biophysics, or immunology is a plus but not a must.

The applicant must have completed and be awarded a relevant Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Science, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, Biotechnology, or Information Science with 1-2 years of working experience in a related field. In addition, the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate technical expertise in areas which may include molecular biology, cell biology, protein chemistry, and protein engineering as evidenced by projects, presentations, or peer‑reviewed scientific publications.

As frequent communication and liaison is expected between both the Singapore and Japan office, you should possess an excellent command of both spoken and written Japanese and English languages.
