Job summary

A leading academic institution in Singapore seeks a Research Assistant/Associate to work with a team on projects involving yeast-derived components for cultivated meat cell culture. The successful candidate will collaborate with experts in food science, help supervise undergraduate projects, and have strong analytical skills. A B.Sc. or M.Sc. in related fields is required, along with research experience. Skills in using analytical instruments and scientific writing are essential. Applications from Singaporeans and Singapore PRs are preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job Description

The successful candidate will work with Professor Zhou Weibiao on yeast-derived components for serum-free cell culture under a project on Cultivated Meat Cell Systems.

The main responsibilities of the position include:

  • The candidate shall join a multidisciplinary team at NUS making efforts to produce and characterize alternative proteins, especially plant proteins, cultivated meat and hybrid products for developing robust and sustainable future food supply that is strategically important to countries like Singapore. The team comprises experts on food chemistry, food material science, food microbiology, food engineering, molecular biology, and human nutrition. Areas of relevance specifically for this position include yeast cells and metabolites, medium development for cultivated meat, meat cell growth system, food analysis.

In addition, he/she will help supervise final year undergraduate projects.

Qualifications

B.Sc. (for Research Assistant position) or M.Sc. (for Research Associate position) in Food Science, Food Technology, or a closely related field from an internationally reputable university.

Skills:

  • Strong wet laboratory and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated capability of independent researcher
  • Good team player
  • Good scientific writing skills

Experience:

Research experience with good track record, including:

  • analytical instruments such as HPLC, GC
  • lab safety and maintenance,
  • report preparation,
  • working experience in a cross-disciplinary team,
  • experience in research on molecular biology.

Working experience with proteomics or cultivated meat systems is highly desirable.

Singaporean and Singapore PR are preferred.
