The Job
The Repair Development Engineer will be responsible for developing, industrializing, and supporting capability setups and repair solutions for a Part 145 MRO shop. This role ensures the shop can support new repair capabilities in compliance with airworthiness regulations, OEM standards, and customer requirements—enabling cost-effective, reliable, and regulatory-compliant repair solutions.
What You Can Expect of the Job
- You’ll lead technical setup for new repair capabilities, including equipment selection, tooling requirements, test bench specifications, and process flow definition.
- You’ll develop and implement qualification plans, first article inspections, and process validations.
- You’ll support capital equipment justification, cost estimation, and ROI analysis for new capability projects.
- You’ll ensure compliance with Part 145, OEM, and regulatory requirements during the establishment of capability.
- You’ll prepare and review technical documentation, including repair procedures, work instructions, and process specifications.
- You’ll perform engineering assessments, damage evaluations, and define appropriate repair methods.
- You’ll coordinate with OEM design/DER/DOA teams for approval of non-standard repairs and deviations.
- You’ll generate and maintain documentation packages (Repair Data, Work Instructions, Test Procedures, etc.).
- You’ll evaluate alternative materials, processes, and technologies to enhance competitiveness.
- You’ll be the primary focal point (for internal and external/OEM stakeholders) related to improvement and standardization of repair development, repair engineering, and best practices / shop methods
- You’ll initiate and support OEM engineering activities, e.g. work scope review, preventative maintenance programs.
- You’ll participate in the specification, review and selection of vendors/suppliers related to repair requirements.
- Any other duties as assigned.
What We Expect of You
- Engineering degree in Mechanical / Electronic / Aerospace or Aeronautic or equivalent.
- 3 - 5 years of experience related to aviation repair or aviation industry environment.
- Demonstrated experience in repair workflow processes and repair development of aviation components.
- Key understanding of Hydraulic / Pneumatic theory and operation.
- A broad knowledge of theory, principles and practical application of key management tools, such as project planning, risk assessment, statistics and statistical process control.
- Understanding of repair station environment operating under relevant Airworthiness standards (e.g. FAA, EASA, CAAS, CAAC).
- Proven experience in the use of IT applications, such as CAD/CATIA, 3D modelling, MS Office, e-LIROM, BaaN, Share point, Query Tracker, PowerBI, etc.
- Good understanding of technical documents (such as CMMs, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, electrical schematics).
- Practical experience in the usage of standard mechanical and electrical instruments, functional gauges and test rigs.
- Knowledge of quality systems, policies and procedures and the ability to apply that knowledge to the interpretation of customer requirements.
- Occasional travel to domestic / international destinations for the purpose of training / work related objectives (estimated 10% - 20% of time on an annual basis)
