PROCUREMENT MANAGER
Job Description & Requirements
The company imports groceries, snacks, chips, sweets, and fresh vegetables from South India and other parts of India. The role involves identifying new products, negotiating with Indian suppliers, coordinating private‑label (own brand) packaging in India, and ensuring product quality and timely shipments to Singapore.
This position requires frequent travel to India to:
- Visit suppliers and production units
- Inspect manufacturing and packaging facilities
- Attend food fairs, trade exhibitions, and supplier seminars
Due to the nature of on‑site supplier engagement, clear knowledge of local Indian languages is mandatory.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and source new grocery, snack, sweet, chips, and vegetable products from India
- Travel to India to visit suppliers, factories, and packaging units
- Attend food fairs, trade shows, and industry seminars in India
- Communicate with suppliers across South India and North India in Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi
- Negotiate pricing, product specifications, and supply terms with Indian manufacturers and wholesalers
- Coordinate own‑brand labelling and product packaging with suppliers and packaging units in India
- Translate supplier documents, product details, and packaging texts from Malayalam/Hindi into English
- Monitor product quality, packaging standards, and compliance with import regulations
- Manage procurement schedules to ensure timely shipment to Singapore
- Work with internal teams to list products on online platforms (Shopee, RedMart, GrabMart, etc.)
- Evaluate supplier performance and build long‑term supplier partnerships
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or above
- Maximum age limit: 38 years
- Strong understanding of Indian FMCG and grocery categories
- Fluency in Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, and English (mandatory)
- Ability to clearly read, write, and speak local Indian languages for supplier coordination
- Experience in procurement, sourcing, or supplier management
- Knowledge of product packaging, branding, and quality control
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently to India
- Strong negotiation and communication skills
Justification for Language & Travel Requirements
- Most suppliers and packaging units in South India operate primarily in Malayalam
- Many manufacturers and wholesalers in other regions of India communicate mainly in Hindi
- Product specifications, packaging instructions, and quality documents are often provided in regional languages
- Private‑label manufacturing and packaging in India requires daily communication in Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi
- Translation into English is required for Singapore regulatory and operational documentation
