Piano Teacher (Part-Time)

(Singapore - NORTHEAST)

Responsibilities
  1. Instruction: Plan and deliver engaging and structured piano lessons to students, taking into account their age, skill level, exam requirements and individual goals. Teach fundamental techniques, such as posture, finger placement, and hand positioning. Introduce music theory concepts, including notation, rhythm, scales, and harmony. Select appropriate repertoire to challenge and motivate students while ensuring it aligns with their skill level.

  2. Assessment and Feedback: Evaluate students\' progress through regular assessments, including recitals, examinations, and practice assignments. Provide constructive feedback to students, helping them identify areas for improvement and setting achievable goals. Adapt teaching methods and materials to address individual learning styles and needs.

  3. Instrument Maintenance: Instruct students on the proper care and maintenance of their instruments. Offer guidance on selecting and purchasing instruments and accessories.

  4. Communication: Maintain open and clear communication with students and their parents or guardians regarding progress, practice routines, exam and performance opportunities. Collaborate with parents/guardians to establish and monitor practice schedules and prepare the students for examination.

  5. Performance and Recitals: Organize and facilitate student recitals or performances to showcase their progress and build confidence. Encourage and support students in participating in competitions, auditions, and other musical events.

  6. Continuing Education: Stay updated on the latest teaching techniques, examination board and syllabus, music trends, and educational materials. Adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and preferences.

  7. Professionalism: Maintain a professional demeanour, punctuality, and reliability in all interactions with students and their families. Adhere to ethical and professional standards of conduct.

  8. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of student attendance, lesson plans, and progress reports.

Qualifications
  • May hold relevant certifications or degrees in music education, music performance or related fields. (preferred).

  • Proficiency in playing piano at an advanced level.

  • Previous teaching experience, especially in one-on-one or group settings.

  • Patience, enthusiasm, and the ability to motivate and inspire students.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage and connect with students of all ages.

  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to suit the needs of individual students.

  • Patience, enthusiasm, and a genuine passion for teaching.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a creative and dynamic team.

  • Flexibility in adapting teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles.

  • Knowledge of music theory and pedagogical methods.

  • Ability to create a positive and nurturing learning environment.

  • Flexibility to work during at least one weekday and on one weekend, based on class schedules. (part-time role)
