Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assesses residents' existing functional capabilities and future potential, determines range of upper limb movement, ability to transfer, balance, strength and coordination, endurance, ability to cope with the activities of daily living, cognitive perceptual functions, behavior and social skills.
  • Training In the improvement of ADL skills.
  • Exercises, hand/eye coordination and graded activities to improve strength and range of motion and increase dexterity in the upper limbs.
  • Training in works simplification techniques.
  • Prescription and fabrication of assisted/adaptive devices/splints to restore/increase function and train residents to use the devices.
  • Cognitive and perceptual re-training using sensory stimulation techniques
  • Evaluates the accessibility and the environmental barriers within the nursing home and the residents' homes (for those who can be discharge) and recommends modification needs for the residents greater independence.
Requirements
  • Recognized Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy, AHPC registration required.
  • 2 - 5 years experience is advantageous.
  • Excellent clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records and other healthcare technology.
  • Meticulous, detailed in work and able to handle deadlines and stress.
  • Be prepared to perform other duties as assigned.
