Job description

Middle and High School Music Teacher

The German European School Singapore (GESS) is looking for an experienced Middle and High School Music Teacher, commencing 1 August 2026.

Job Purpose

Supporting the Head of Creative Arts/Music in teaching and learning practice across Middle and High School.

Playing an active role in school ensembles, groups, and other music/arts initiatives. This role ensures a cohesive and thriving music culture within the school community;

Ensures that the Music programmes positively develop students’ learning, understanding, skills, knowledge and appreciation of Music.

To support in ensuring that the GESS Music Department has an engaging, rigorous, enriching culture that is consistent with the defined mission and values of GESS.

To support the promotion of quality and advance the education of young people in all levels of Music education, with the following aims:

Key Accountabilities
  • Work closely with the rest of the Music and Creative Arts department in aligning the Music programmes across the school.
  • Refining systems which support teaching and learning pedagogy.
  • Have a sound knowledge of MYP and IBDP Music programmes.
  • Be able to integrate Music technology into the learning programme.
  • Contribute to the development of a climate of collaboration and community across Music, the Arts and whole school areas in both the academic and experiential areas.
  • Maintain the climate of trust and transparent communication across the music areas.
  • Attend weekly Music/Arts meetings (as needed).
Knowledge and Experience
  • Recognised teaching qualification (minimumB.Ed or PGCE equivalent).
  • At least four years of teaching experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge, understanding and teaching experience of the IB Programme.
  • Appropriate Health and Safety training for taught subject areas (e.g. for PE, first aid and swimming training certifications).
  • Ability to work collaboratively, professionally and effectively within a team.
  • Willingness to adapt to and embrace a new school environment.
  • Willingness to contribute and champion educational change that supports best practice and improve student learning.
