Maintenance and Repair Manager (Container Shipping)

What You’ll Do

You will be responsible for the provision of cargo-worthy containers to customers for cargo carriage, while optimizing for the lowest possible operating cost. This includes managing service providers, setting policies and standards, and monitoring compliance through the agency network and site audits. Additionally, you will oversee container engineering, provide technical support, and manage new container production to ensure operational efficiency and alignment with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage depot performance across Southeast Asia, including developing and implementing SLAs, and tracking performance metrics.
  • Oversee the performance of SE Asia agencies’ MNR (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) staff, including estimate approvals and physical surveys. Coordinate with the India GBS-MNR center for estimate validation.
  • Establish and enforce policies related to container inspection and repair.
  • Manage the depot audit program in SE Asia and conduct ad hoc on-site audits as necessary.
  • Monitor and analyze MNR activities and costs, taking corrective actions to address cost variances.
  • Provide system training (iMARS) and ongoing support to agency personnel.
  • Liaise with agencies, Head Office Logistics, ARO Logistics teams, and the Procurement department regarding the procurement of new depots.
  • Provide technical equipment support to trade, commercial, and other internal departments.
  • Coordinate with recovery teams on container damage cases, Lump Sum Collection Plans, Container Damage Protection Scheme (CDPS), and Container Maintenance Charges (CMC).
  • Lead research and development of new technologies, conduct factory audits, and oversee quality control and manufacturing processes for new container builds.
What We’re Looking For
  • Degree, diploma, or equivalent education in maritime, engineering, or related fields.
  • 5 years of working experience in MNR field preferred
  • Technical knowledge of various ISO container types, including inspection and survey expertise for dry vans, reefers, open-tops, flat racks, etc., with strong understanding of reefer machine technical aspects.
  • Expertise in ISO/IICL/UCRIC/CSC standards, norms, and regulations, as well as industrial standards for container newbuilding, including GB-T and JIS requirements for regulatory compliance.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify actionable insights, and drive performance improvements through evidence-based decision-making.
  • Proficient in negotiation, policy analysis, organization, enforcement, and decision implementation.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel would be advantageous.
  • Willingness to frequently travel and work outdoors.
