Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel with a strong background in trade and crude oil transactions. The ideal candidate will provide legal support and guidance on commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, risk management, and dispute resolution related to international trade and crude oil businesses.
Candidates with in-house legal experience are preferred, as this aligns better with the nature of the role.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and support on trade-related matters, particularly crude oil and petrochemical transactions.
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts, including but not limited to sales and purchase agreements, transportation agreements and joint venture contracts.
- Ensure compliance with international and local trade laws, regulations and sanctions and other relevant compliance frameworks.
- Evaluate and manage legal risks associated with transactional activities and provide strategic advice to mitigate potential liabilities.
- Liaise with external legal counsel and regulators as required.
- Handle dispute resolution, litigation and arbitration cases related to trade contracts and business operations.
- Monitor regulatory developments and provide advice on their potential impact on business operations.
- Support internal teams during contract interpretation, negotiation and enforcement.
- Conduct legal training and advocacy programs for internal stakeholders.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor of Laws or higher from a recognized university.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in trade law with a focus on crude oil and petrochemical transactions.
- In-depth knowledge of international trade regulations, compliance requirements and contract law.
- Familiarity with shipping and logistics regulations in crude oil trading.
- Strong negotiation, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
- Fluency in English is required; good Mandarin listening and speaking skills to communicate with native Mandarin-speaking shareholders.
