Job Summary
  • Our client operates a reputable mid-sized law firm in Singapore. They are seeking an experienced family law lawyer to join as a Department Head (7+ Years PQE) to lead their Family Law & Private Wealth Department.
  • If selected, you will manage a portfolio of family law and private client cases and lead a dedicated team of lawyers and support staff.
  • Leads will be provided to you to support your billable targets.
  • Salary: Up to SGD 180,000 per annum (negotiable)
  • Annual Leave: 21 days
  • Work Arrangement: Hybrid model (4 days in-office, 1 day work-from-home per week)
Job Scope
  • Leadership and Management: Lead and mentor a team of 4–6 lawyers and paralegals. Supervise their work, delegate case responsibilities, and ensure a high quality of legal service.
  • Client Representation: Provide expert legal advice and representation across the full spectrum of family law and private client matters.
  • Case Management: Oversee the progress of all cases. Assign tasks, review legal documents (such as pleadings, petitions, affidavits, and court submissions), and ensure deadlines and procedural requirements are met.
  • Collaboration with Marketing: Work closely with the firm’s SEO and marketing team to receive and convert leads.
  • Court Advocacy and Negotiation: Attend court (Family Court and related forums) to argue cases and represent clients. Negotiate settlements and mediations on behalf of clients. Ensure the firm’s cases are handled ethically, efficiently, and in line with best practices.
  • Strategic Development: Assist in setting departmental goals and strategies. Contribute to the growth of the family law practice through process improvements, team development, and collaboration with other departments.
Job Requirements
  • Admitted to the Singapore Bar: Must hold a valid Singapore Practising Certificate and be eligible to practice law in Singapore.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years PQE, with a strong background in family law.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a small team of lawyers. Strong mentoring, organisational, and delegation skills are required.
  • Legal Competence: Excellent knowledge of Singapore family law and court procedures. Proven track record of handling complex matrimonial cases through court and alternative dispute resolution (e.g., mediation, collaborative law).
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities. Able to liaise effectively with clients, judges, opposing counsel, and team members with professionalism and discretion.
  • Professionalism: High ethical standards, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality. Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Educational Background: A law degree (LL.B or equivalent) from an accredited university is required. Additional qualifications or memberships (e.g., LL.M, family law training certifications) are advantageous.
  • Team Player: While the firm provides client leads through marketing, the candidate must be proactive in managing inquiries and cases. The ability to collaborate closely with the marketing team and other departments is important.
