Job summary

A leading sports retailer in Singapore is seeking a Real Estate & Commercial Legal Counsel for a 6-month maternity cover. The ideal candidate will have mandatory commercial leasing experience and strong negotiation skills. Responsibilities include leading negotiations on real estate projects, drafting contracts, and providing legal support to the Expansion Team. Candidates should possess a Bachelor's Degree in Law and at least 2 years of relevant PQE experience. A passion for sports is encouraged.

Qualifications

  • Min. 2 years experience (2 PQE) is a must, preferably from a Commonwealth jurisdiction.
  • Law firm experience from a reputable corporate real estate practice is required.
  • In-house experience in the Real estate sector is a plus.

  • Identify and mitigate legal risks in all transactions.

You will work for the Legal Team of Decathlon Singapore, and be a key team player in the opening of Decathlon stores (which is one of the main components of Decathlon’s omni‑channel strategy). Currently, we have 6 Experience Stores and 15 Click & Collect stores in Singapore.

Duration: Dec 2025 to June 2026

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

*Do note that this role is a Maternity Cover for 6 months

  • Directly lead negotiations in real estate projects against counterparties (commercial landlords/owners, technical personnel, brokers/agents), including at C‑suite levels, without the assistance of external lawyers
  • Draft and review contracts and documents in relation to real estate projects (including term sheets, lease agreements, sale & purchase agreements, design & build contracts, fitting out contracts, etc.)
  • Provide legal support to the Expansion Team, from site identification all the way to contract signature (including participating in Investment Committee sessions)
  • Identify and mitigate legal risk in all transactions
  • Advise stakeholders on legal, regulatory and compliance matters relevant to real estate, developments, acquisitions and disposals; etc
  • Ensure adherence to the company’s policies, processes, and framework
  • Keep abreast of legal and regulatory development in the real estate industry across Singapore
  • Advise on general corporate commercial matters
  • Assist the Legal Director of Legal & Compliance (APAC) with any ad‑hoc matters
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law. Bar qualification
  • Min. 2 years experience (2 PQE) is a must, from a Commonwealth jurisdiction is a plus.
  • Commercial leasing experience is mandatory. Strong negotiation experience.
  • Law firm experience gained from a reputable corporate real estate practice
  • In‑house experience in the Real estate (and related) sector a plus
  • Language skills: Excellent communication and written skills in English.
  • Computer skills: Excellent computing skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Sports lover!
  • Very responsible and reliable
  • Highly motivated and versatile team player
  • Able to work independently, prioritise, and follow through on multiple, concurrent and often competing deliverables, while managing expectations of business deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with good attention to details
