Role: Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Lead
Location

Singapore

Key Responsibility

The Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Lead will oversee the design, integration, and implementation of instrumentation and control systems for a large-scale pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. This role ensures GMP-compliant execution, reliable automation systems, and seamless integration with process and utility equipment. The I&C Lead provides technical oversight on behalf of the Owner/Client, reviewing and approving I&C deliverables and activities executed by the Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) contractor.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee EPC contractors in the design, specification, and implementation of I&C systems across all project phases (detailed design, construction, commissioning).
  • Align with corporate engineering and process engineering teams to define requirements for instrumentation and control systems.
  • Collaborate with EPC teams, equipment vendors, and internal engineering disciplines (process, mechanical, electrical, automation) to ensure integrated system design.
  • Review P&IDs, control philosophies, instrument datasheets, loop diagrams, and I/O lists delivered by EPC contractors.
  • Oversee specification and procurement of field instruments, control valves, analyzers, and PAT tools for sterile and regulated environments.
  • Ensure calibration strategies comply with GMP and support system start-up and commissioning.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable industry standards (GMP, GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11).
  • Support FAT, SAT, commissioning, and qualification (IQ/OQ) activities for process and utility systems.
  • Review and approve vendor‑submitted instrumentation documentation and ensure compliance with project and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide expertise on integration and connectivity for HART / fieldbus devices, enabling predictive maintenance and diagnostics.
  • Interface with QA, Validation, and Operations to ensure systems are designed for long‑term compliance and maintainability.
  • Contribute to the development and alignment of the integrated project schedule.
Role Requirements
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, Control Systems Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in I&C engineering, with at least 5 years in pharmaceutical/biotech manufacturing.
  • Strong experience leading I&C scope on major capital projects.
  • In‑depth understanding of instrumentation principles (e.g., transmitter configuration, control valve sizing and selection).
  • Strong working knowledge of automation platforms (e.g., Emerson DeltaV, Siemens, Rockwell).
  • Familiarity with cleanroom design, hazardous area classification, and validated control systems.
  • Strong understanding of P&IDs, loop diagrams, motor/drive schematics, relay logic, and LV power distribution.
  • Experience with HART/fieldbus equipment and Asset Management Systems (AMS).
  • Strong leadership and project management skills.
  • Understanding of how AMS supports digital maintenance and operations strategies.
