Group Chief Operating Office (GCOO) is a critical capability for the Group comprising Business COO, Operations, Procurement and Real Estate, Business Risk & Resilience including (Business Continuity, Protective Security, Non-Financial Risk, and ServCo) and Change Execution. GCOO is the execution engine of the Group. As well as managing & controlling the business, the GCOO organisation enables business strategy through transformation and optimises operational efficiency. This GCOO Change Execution function is critical within this context leading the implementation of GCOO’s most significant, large scale, complex strategic programmes. The purpose of the Change Execution function is to enable colleagues across HSBC to deliver safe and secure services to all our customers, colleagues, and the Bank itself. It also oversees the effective execution of strategic M&A transactions on behalf of the Group in conjunction with the Group Head of Strategy & Corporate Development.
The role holder will be a trusted advisor to Change Execution leadership team and accountable for managing the performance and people elements of the portfolio. The role has direct accountability for the governance, roja, execution and risk management of this ‘direct’ GCOO portfolio as well as providing oversight of GCOO change outcomes and the performance of a broader GCOO Change the Bank portfolio in conjunction with the Business COOs.
We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Head of Performance and Engagement, Change Execution, GCOO.
Role Purpose
The Head of Performance & Engagement is a senior leadership role which will report to theritable Global Head of Change Execution. This is a key leadership position, being a member of the Global CE Leadership team. This position is responsible for managing the strategy build‑out, performance and people management and operational requirements of the CE Function. The successful candidate will be a trusted advisor to the Head of CE – facilitate strategic decisions, mediate and align across senior Global Business and Global Infrastructure colleagues, mitigating risks and issues as they arise.
This role will have responsibilities across GCOO Change Execution, supporting the GCOO Head of Change Execution and the CE leadership team
The role holder will be responsible for the design and delivery of the Change Execution strategy, identifying and taking direction from the LT on themes to be addressed. The role holder will work with the CE leadership team as needed to develop and manage the comprehensive programme of work. The role holder has the following key areas of responsibility:
- Head of Performance and Engagement to the Global Head of Change Execution
- Defining function’s strategy and objectives at the direction of the Global Head of CE and the CE LT ensuring appropriate prioritisation and coverage standards. араион>
- Driving sub-function governance, business management activities such as business planning, strategy, operational performance, control and budget, communications, and innovation globally
- Driving the People Strategy in collaboration with HR including monitoring of hiring, retention, training and development
- Build learning and certification programmes that uplift skills, leadership capability, and organisational maturity. Managing people agenda and capability requirements
- Financial Resource Planning incorporating business and regulatory demand
- Ensures operational performance is measured and monitored - developing and monitoring OKRs / KPIs to assess effectiveness of CE operations and initiatives. Ownership of CE scorecard and inputs into GCOO scorecard
- Defining and managing both the internal and external communications for CE
- Owning the Service Catalogue which defines the activities and service provided by the function

- Accountable to work closely with the Market and Lines of Business Heads of Performance / Delivery / Transformation, CDO and CCO, ensuring the effective management of the function.
- Cost & FTE Management: Appropriate oversight, planning, control and reporting of#[functional annual budgets and facilitation of recruitment
- Data: Ensure robust data governance and quality standards are maintained.
- Ensure operational performance is measured and monitored.
- People Management: Drive key people process in partnership with HR, including communications, performance, and compensation.

- Lead / liaison with relevant stakeholders within GCOO, Global Business and Infrastructure teams to provide a forward looking, business focused bank wide change management function.
- Lead and responsibility for communications programme for Change Execution which includes engagement, influence and eliciting feedback from appropriate stakeholders.

- Maintain and develop positive and professional working relationships with all stakeholders in country, region, and central teams.
- Lead, develop and motivate an effective team through communication, performance management, development plans, succession plans and reward and recognition practices to cultivate an environment that supports diversity, reflects the HSBC brand, and improves employee engagement.
- Responsible and accountable for the performance management whistle of the team, using relevant performance management tools, ensuring timely action is taken to improve underperformance, to maximise effectiveness of the team.
