The Scope:
A Barista is responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the specified area whilst on shift; maintaining the established service standard; and upholding the policies and procedures of the outlet and the Hotel.
Job Responsibilities:
- Attend to guest’s needs and desires immediately
- Maintain the grooming standards
- Maintain a harmonious relationship with members of staff in all departments
- Have a full knowledge of the Hotel’s food and beverage service policies and procedures
- Maintain superior levels of food & beverage service to Hotel guests
- Participate in the planning and conducting of theoretical and on-the-job training
- Comply with, and ensure adherence to all of the Hotel’s policies & procedures
- Ensure that all areas are stocked to appropriate par levels
- Assist with the ordering of Café related stock
- Supervise the maintenance and cleanliness of the facility in accordance with Hotel policy
- Have a full knowledge of, and practice all of the established Hotel occupational health and safety guidelines (OH&S)
- Ensure all cashiering policies and procedures are followed
- Ensure the protection and maintenance of all operating equipment in conjunction with the maintenance manager
- Ensure all possible controls are in place to deter any cash or stock losses
- Maintain safe environmental practices
- Give assistance to other departments or outlets when required
- Attend all scheduled meetings
- Perform any other duties as directed by senior Hotel management
- Welcoming customers, taking their orders and handling payments
- Describing the differences in coffee beans and roasts to customers
- Grinding coffee using a coffee grinder and adjusting the grinder as needed
- Preparing espresso-based coffee drinks with speed and a sound understanding of latte art and method
- Prepare other beverages, including tea, hot chocolate and frozen drinks
- Keeping coffee-making equipment clean throughout the day and following a procedure to thoroughly clean the equipment at the end of the day/s/week
- Replenishing stock levels in both FOH and BOH
- Train new employees on how to operate equipment and prepare different drinks
Qualification:
- Valid WSQ Basic Food Hygiene certification
Experience:
- At least 1 – 2 years working experience as a barista
- Have a high standard of hospitality and service standard

- Great organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proven objection handling, prospecting and negotiation skills.
