GIC is one of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds. With over 2,000 employees across 11 locations around the world, we invest in more than 40 countries globally across asset classes and businesses. Working at GIC gives you exposure to an extraordinary network of the world’s industry leaders. As a leading global long-term investor, we work at the Point of Impact for Singapore’s financial future and the communities we invest in worldwide.

Sustainability Office (SO)

The Sustainability Office is a centre of excellence for sustainable investing practices that drives GIC’s focus on this area as an enterprise priority. The Office is responsible for (i) partnering with GIC’s investment teams to integrate sustainability-related considerations in the investment process through the co-development of methodologies, tools, and frameworks, (ii) conducting industry-leading sustainability research that informs the firm’s view on financial materiality and direction on sustainability-themed investing, (iii) defining GIC’s public stance on sustainable investing and the metrics used to measure the sustainability performance of the portfolio, and (iv) providing trusted advice to GIC’s clients to support their sustainable investing strategy. These responsibilities are executed in close collaboration with asset class department-level sustainability experts, and with middle office and corporate services leaders.

What will you do as an Associate/AVP, Business Management, Sustainability Office?

This is a newly created role reporting to the Business Manager, SVP. The Business Management team establishes and performs functions that develop best-in-class operational practices within the Sustainability Office, alongside development of sustainability practices among GIC’s middle and back office. The Business Management team enjoys broad exposure to cross-department stakeholders across the global enterprise, with whom they are expected to partner to deliver on the role’s objectives. This role will suit a highly structured and responsible individual with a passion for process streamlining or transformation in the asset management context, and who understands that generating real returns over the long-term must be supported by robust underlying governance and operations.

Responsibilities
  • Support the Business Manager, SVP with strategic planning and business management activities that drive the effective execution of the Sustainability Office’s objectives and priorities. Examples include supporting the annual planning cycles, quarterly business reviews, and coordinating key sustainability initiatives and engagements.
  • Support the execution and continuous improvement of internal governance processes that advance GIC’s sustainable investing priorities. This includes contributing to reviews of sustainability governance frameworks, assisting with updates to the Sustainable Investing Policy and related documentation, and coordinating periodic policy reviews and audits.
  • Provide secretariat support for relevant committees and working groups (e.g., GIC Sustainability Committee, Sustainability Regulations Working Group), helping to track engagement across asset departments and ensure effective coordination and follow-through on key actions.
  • Contribute to project management activities for technology-related and other workstreams that enable GIC’s sustainability strategy, supporting planning, stakeholder consultation, and delivery tracking to ensure timely completion of key initiatives.
  • Manage and/or support other ad hoc projects and relevant workstreams as required.
What qualifications or skills should you possess in this role?
  • Bachelor’s degree or above; preferred academic background in finance (operations) sustainability/climate and/or business. PMP Certification will be well regarded although not essential.
  • At least 3-4 years of professional experience in or exposure to the finance/asset management industry, with demonstrated involvement in areas such as project management, operations management, process improvement, or organisational change initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey ideas clearly and work effectively with stakeholders across different levels and functions.
  • Demonstrated integrity, initiative, and attention to detail, with the ability to build stakeholder alignment and follow through on commitments.
  • Genuine interest in sustainability in business and investing, and experience or subject matter expertise in the implementation of sustainability in the asset management context will be highly regarded.
  • Data analytics and technical coding skills (e.g. Python, R) considered a plus.
