Introduction: Investment Performance and Management ("IPM")'s Mission Statement

Drive unified alignment across the organization to support Temasek’s strategic investment vision and enhance our overall investment performance.

Responsibilities

This role provides a unique opportunity to gain a high-level perspective on Temasek’s portfolio, investment activities, strategy and focus areas, as well as participate in developing plans and programs to address ongoing organizational needs and drive our overall investment performance. This role will require you to be a strategic partner to the Investment Group, establish best practices for the organization and provide overall portfolio oversight support to senior stakeholders.

As part of the Investment Performance & Management (IPM) team, the responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

A. Investment & Portfolio
  • Support senior management in formulating and communicating key investment strategies and our strategic stance / directives. Also drive strategic and analytical projects that assist senior management in evaluating investment performance and refining investment strategy across Investing Teams’ and Temasek’s portfolio
  • Drive key insights from our investments and portfolio data to enhance overall decision making
  • Derive inputs to frame overall investment strategy and direction (e.g. investment focus, capital allocation, etc.)
  • Work with investment and functional teams (PSRG, CF, RMU, etc.) to shape overall investment strategy and direction, including investment monitoring, investment activity and pace, and implications for portfolio construction and allocation
  • Drive portfolio management and oversight efforts, including spearheading the Portfolio Action Plan and supporting value creation across select portfolio companies
B. Investment Learnings, Best Practices & People
  • Collaborate with Investing Teams across both public and private markets to establish firm-wide best practices and learning initiatives
  • Critically assess and enhance our existing investment practices to support our overall investment performance and activities
  • Ensuring capture of learnings across different sector / market teams and public / private market teams to instill best practices
  • Work with IAC to drive best practices to enhance our overall decision making
  • Initiate/lead projects to enhance investment professionals’ effectiveness and competency, including streamlining investment processes, assessing and developing training programmes. This includes working with colleagues in Investment Services, L & R and O & P
C. Technology & Governance
  • Serve as a strategic business partner to several in-house investment management systems, which involves reviewing business processes related to the system and providing / conducting training to end-users as necessary
  • Ongoing review and enhancements to our existing governance practices
Requirements
  • 5-8 years of relevant experience with investment background, preferably with private equity direct investing / portfolio management / value creation background
  • Self-starter able to think about the big picture yet embrace the details, manage multiple priorities and work independently
  • Able to design analysis and bring structure and form to amorphous ideas
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to articulate and persuade
  • Strong understanding of the investing business and investment process; prior experience working across sourcing and origination through insights, diligence, execution and investment management preferable
