A multinational corporation in Mexicali is seeking a Trade Compliance Manager to oversee all aspects of customs compliance and trade regulations. The successful candidate will have over 5 years of experience in trade compliance, a strong knowledge of Mexican customs laws, and proficiency in both English and Spanish. Responsibilities include managing import/export processes, coordinating with suppliers and customs agents, and ensuring regulatory compliance. This role requires effective problem-solving skills and a thorough understanding of trade agreements.

Responsibilities
  • Ensures Communication and Compliance with Corporate Policies in regard to Foreign Trade. Proposes the best domestic practices to the Corporation.
  • Ensures that the Customs Compliance Functions of the Import and Export Operation of the Organization are carried out by interrelating with the different areas.
  • Plans and designs flow of imports/exports complying with local and other countries’ regulations.
  • Ensures the scheduling of shipments and notifies the dates of arrival to the departments involved and to the customers.
  • Oversees that the activities of the area are carried out in accordance with the provisions of the operating procedures and in strict compliance with the current regulations governing Mexican foreign trade (Customs Law, Foreign Trade Law, General Import and Export Tax Law and other applicable regulations), in addition to corporate compliance with foreign trade policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates daily crossings with the Finished Product Warehouse, ensuring that import and export procedures have the correct invoices.
  • Supervises the correct tariff classification of inputs, finished products and fixed assets made by the customs agent.
  • Audits the information contained in the Global Trade database system, to reconcile information related to inventory control, virtual inventories and resolve discrepancies when they arise.
  • Holds meetings and facilitates trainings on customs and compliance topics.
  • Manages national and international suppliers of logistic services, customs agents and warehouses in Mexico and abroad.
  • Manages expenses related to the Department of Foreign Trade, leads projects for continuous improvement, tax and cost reduction.
  • Responsible for truthfulness, integrity and compliance with System Annex 24.
  • Responsible for obtaining and maintaining the certifications and permits applicable to companies with IMMEX program.
  • Responsible for implementing metrics of foreign trade operations in order to monitor performance and implications.
  • Responsible for maximizing benefits of international treaties and ensuring their correct application.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in trade compliance or related field
  • B.A. or equivalent experience in International Business, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Business Administration with concentration in International Business
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work on several projects in parallel in a fast‑paced environment
  • Interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal skills to facilitate effective communication, in English and Spanish
  • A thorough understanding of all relevant Mexican customs laws, regulations, and procedures is paramount. This includes customs regulations, tariff classifications, and duty drawback programs
  • A strong understanding of supply chain principles and the ability to optimize custom processes for efficiency and cost‑effectiveness
  • Deep knowledge of customs regulations
  • Familiarity with trade agreements relevant to Mexico, such as USMCA (United States‑Mexico‑Canada Agreement), and their impact on import and export operations
  • Customs broker management
  • Familiarity with customs clearance software and other relevant technologies (SAP)
  • Proficiency in using data analysis tools and spreadsheets to supervise and analyze customs data
  • The ability to effectively troubleshoot and resolve customs‑related issues and challenges
  • Continuous learning in industry trends
