Overview

In order to optimize outbound transport to our stores, we will have a local transport team headed up by a Team Lead Transport. The Team Lead reports functionally to the Logistics Service Manager (LSM) and operates to the Regional Transport Manager who is responsible for the financial and operational performance in the region.

Objective of the role

The main focus of the role is to organize the daily transport for delivering to the stores out of the DC in the most efficient way, while maintaining the agreed service level with the stores in combination with supporting expedition and warehouse needs to ensure efficient logistics in both directions. The Team Lead heads up a small team of Dispatchers and works closely with TSPs (2 – 3).

Areas of responsibility

Process management

  • Leading the local transport team and the standard way of working : the processes that apply for transport execution and administration;
  • Identify bottlenecks in the transport operation;
  • Solve daily escalations, escalate if needed and initiate improvements for structural mitigation;
  • Monitor available capacity of employees and transport partners.

Execution

  • Participate in transport in implementing processes, together with RTM and Transport partners (TSPs);
  • Participate and monitor the daily dispatch operation, where transport routes are dispatched to the different transport partners;
  • Monitor timely departure and delivery and take corrective actions in case of process disturbances (e.g. warehouse delay, or late truck arrival);
  • Provide support and monitor the administrative tasks in the team : waybill administration, hourly states of drivers where needed, admin of performance and operational data required for self-billing of transport partners and / or performance reporting;
  • Monitor that transport partners comply with maintenance procedures for the use of Action assets : mainly Trailers;
  • Manage the team by providing clear instructions, supporting training of new employees;
  • Participate in several periodic meetings, e.g. weekly DC-meeting, weekly capacity meeting with RTM and daily roll calls;
  • If needed, replace the RTM in his / her absence.

Leading the team

  • Lead the team by giving clear directions, taking ownership and responsibility for people, costs and service;
  • Actively develop the team and the skills of individual team members by giving constructive feedback, clear instructions, explanations and coaching;
  • Create enthusiastic colleagues by giving clear and realistic goals, explaining the impact of behaviour, creating a positive atmosphere and inspiring the team to achieve the best performance.

Requirements

  • The candidate should have a solid background in retail distribution in the Italian market;
  • Strong knowledge of the local transport market;
  • Knowledge of warehouse operations;
  • At least 5 years of experience working with transport partner(s);
  • Bachelor level in combination with at least 5 years of relevant work experience (preferably in a similar role) or Senior vocational level in combination with 10 years of relevant work experience (preferably in a similar role);
  • Candidates should preferably be Italian native speakers and fluent in English;
  • Incorporates a pragmatic and cost-conscious approach in day-to-day responsibilities;
  • Ability to prioritize and solve problems in real time;
  • Analytical and able to present data;
  • Strong communication and influencing skills;
  • Pro-active and eager for opportunities to improve the process;
  • Works accurately.
