To support this priority, Amazon is seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Site Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Manager to join our team. In this position, you will partner with the site level operations team for your designated site to execute company WHS policies and ensure compliance with all applicable local and regional regulations. Leveraging lean principles and Kaizen events, you will lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce conditional and ergonomic risk in Amazon’s processes and ensure a safe and healthful working environment for our associates.

In this role, you must demonstrate the ability to build trust and confidence with cross‑functional operations teams, and influence change through comprehensive risk assessments and safety data analysis. You will instruct and train operations leadership and site WHS professionals in company EHS policies and assist regional teams in incorporating our safety standards at their sites. Your experience working in safety programs and relevant safety, environmental and ergonomic knowledge in an operations environment will be crucial.

As a senior leader in the WHS organization, you will develop a team of safety managers and professionals at your designated site, create and execute leadership development plans, and assess safety talent to select appropriate bench strength for current and future business needs.

Responsibilities
  • Act as SME of local / regional regulations and company WHS policy.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance with all applicable Amazon Safety Policies.
  • Measure site performance against published safety policy requirements; identify and implement corrective action plans for deficiencies.
  • Maintain safety record‑keeping and data integrity; provide accurate reporting and metrics to support business safety initiatives.
  • Deliver on‑time and quality projects to Operations.
  • Deep‑dive safety metrics, review incident trends weekly and monthly, and propose action plans to senior leadership.
  • Audit record‑keeping practices and Global Safety Database entries for compliance with global safety standards and local regulations.
  • Audit workplace organization and associate behaviors to ensure accurate and consistent training, auditing, and scoring methods.
  • Manage and mentor Safety Managers and Safety Associates at the assigned site.
  • Engage Injury Prevention Specialists (IPS) and Site Leadership to drive long‑term strategic actions for incident reduction.
  • Perform targeted Kaizen events with Operations teams based on identified risks (force, repetition, awkward postures).
  • Ensure site leadership and associates are trained and knowledgeable of their responsibilities under each policy.
  • Audit the quality, delivery (including qualifications of the trainer), and effectiveness of all required safety training.
  • Review the effectiveness of deployed safety tools and revise to ensure continual improvement.
  • Partner with corporate and regional field safety personnel to leverage global safety and environmental best practices into NA network standards.
Job Elements
  • Lift up to 49 pounds and frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach.
  • Stand / walk for up to 12 hours during shifts.
  • Work in an environment where noise levels vary.
  • Work in an environment subject to variable temperatures and weather (delivery stations include outside loading departments).
  • Continuously climb and descend stairs (if applicable).
  • Maintain effective care delivery in emergencies and assist emergency response at the site.

Those that do not have an adult First Aid, CPR, AED certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross must obtain it within 3 weeks of start date.

Basic Qualifications
  • 7+ years of increasing responsibilities in safety and / or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, or service operations, or relevant experience applicable to the role.
  • 7+ years of increasing responsibilities in people and performance management.
  • CPR / First Aid Certification.
  • Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.
  • Willingness to work a variety of shifts, including nights and weekends, as required to support direct reports and site needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Safety Professional (preferred).
  • Experience in a fast‑paced, dynamic organization.
  • Interest in long‑term career development through assignments across the nation.
  • Track record of effectively managing a safety operation comprising both salaried and hourly staff.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing others into higher levels of responsibility.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort interfacing with Directors and VPs.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $134,700 / year in our lowest geographic market up to $222,700 / year in our highest geographic market.
