Responsibilities

Who we are looking for :

As an R&D Automation Senior Specialist, you will act as the technical expert for industrial automation projects, with a strong vertical focus on Siemens technologies. You will be responsible for designing, programming, testing, and optimizing automation solutions, ensuring integration with both internal systems and client production environments. This role requires deep expertise in Siemens PLC programming and a strong background in industrial automation. Previous exposure to machine installation is highly valued, as is the ability to drive innovation and contribute to the development of scalable, robust automation platforms. You will work closely with R&D and Service Engineering teams, playing a critical role in evolving our technological offering.

• Automation design and programming: design and implement automation logic using Siemens PLCs, with a focus on modularity, scalability, and system performance.
• R&D contribution: drive the development of new automation features and architectures in collaboration with the wider engineering team.
• System integration: ensure seamless integration of automation systems into machinery, define interfaces and communication protocols
• Support to installation and troubleshooting: provide expert input and remote / on-site support during machine installation and validation phases.
• Cross-functional collaboration: work alongside mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to ensure alignment across all components of the system.
• Technical reference: serve as an internal reference point for Siemens automation technologies, providing guidance to junior engineers and other departments, develop and maintain technical documentation and test protocols.

Qualifications

• Ideal Background :
• Degree in Automation Engineering
• At least 5 years of experience in industrial automation, ideally in R&D and engineering roles
• Proven experience with Siemens PLC programming
• Mandatory: Advanced proficiency in TIA Portal (Siemens) and hands-on experience with programming industrial robots, particularly KUKA and ABB systems.
• Nice to have: Confidence in reading and understanding (even without direct programming experience) tools such as EPLAN Pro Panel and IndraWorks (Bosch Rexroth).
• Solid understanding of industrial machinery, sensors, motion control, and integration into production processes
• Experience in installation, testing, and troubleshooting of automated systems is a strong plus
• Ability to manage complex projects and work independently with minimal supervision
• Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Italian and / or German is a plus
