Mobile Core Network Engineer

Fastweb + Vodafone is looking for two Mobile Core Network Engineers for the Technology Team.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop architectures and solutions in the mobile domain for 2G/4G/5G (NSA/SA) service generations.
  • Define service requirements and conduct technology scouting with direct interaction with suppliers.
  • Document technical specifications.
  • Plan project phases, coordinating suppliers and internal resources.
  • Support validation and release activities in production.

Macro‑domains of responsibility within the Mobile functional area:

  • Mobile Packet Core architectures (EPC/5GC) and related services.
  • eSIM/SIM management, Over‑The‑Air platforms, and mobile messaging architectures.
  • Mobile Voice services (VoLTE, VoWiFi).
  • Subscriber Data Management architectures (SDM – HLR/HSS/UDM).
  • Reporting plan management architectures (MAP, CAP, DIAMETER, HTTP/2).

Key stakeholders:

  • Business functions translating service requirements into technology solutions.
  • Operations team for post‑deployment support.
  • Cybersecurity team for security analysis and counter‑measure implementation.
Essential Requirements
  • Degree in Telecommunications Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • Deep knowledge of Core LTE/EPC (MME, SGW, PGW, PCRF, HSS, etc.) and solid understanding of Core 5GC (AMF, SMF, UPF, PCF, UDM/AUSF, etc.).
  • Familiarity with the 5G SA service‑based architecture (SBA) and related protocols (HTTP/2, RESTful APIs).
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM) and containerisation (Kubernetes) in cloud‑native environments.
  • Knowledge of IMS and CS voice networks.
  • Experience in 2G/4G signalling and related STP and DRA platforms.
  • Basic understanding of mobile terminal ecosystem and services such as VoLTE.
  • Basic knowledge of SIM/eSIM electrical profile definition and OTA management platforms.
  • Basic knowledge of mobile messaging support architectures (SMSC/MMSC) and service protocols (MTP, SCCP, TCAP, MAP, SMPP).
  • Strong troubleshooting, KPI analysis, log and network trace skills.
  • Good understanding of Layer 2/3 networking protocols (ARP, STP, RSTP, VRRP, BGP, OSPF).
  • Excellent command of English.
  • Strong results orientation.
