Functional Safety & Cybersecurity Specialist

Position Summary
Main Responsibilities
Perform and/or coordinate all necessary functional safety engineering activities, as defined in the OH System Engineering processes and best practices.
- Understand what are the stakeholder’s Functional Safety needs from the product:
- Interact with customers and internal stakeholders to collect input FuSa requirements.
- Guide customers with little or no prior FuSa experience in defining requirements.
- Facilitate a sign-off of all involved stakeholders.
- Define the system-level concept of our product:
- Specify the safety goals / Safety Functions for the development.
- Define the Functional and Technical Safety Concept of the product.
- Translate customer needs to design input for each of the teams:
- Lead the creation of a system FMEA.
- Execute or coordinate the execution of HW metric calculations.
- Support the hardware and software design specifications.
- Support and monitor development, integration, verification and validation activities:
- Lead the creation of an integration and test plan, with focus on the FuSa aspects of the development.
- Lead the creation of a safety manual as part of the product documentation.
- Perform or ensure execution of quantitative analysis of the electronic hardware.
- Monitor and control FuSa-relevant activities of the different design and engineering teams.
- Document the project’s Safety Case.
- Systematically record, analyse, monitor, and report on metrics relevant to the FuSa activities.
Active role in supporting the Functional Safety Engineering team as well as the broader OH Engineering teams to achieve excellence in their system engineering activities:
- Support other teams in growing functional safety engineering maturity.
- Define techniques and tools to improve functional safety engineering efficiency.
- Actively support FuSa team process improvements.
- Follow up of new Fusa related regulations or standards.
Job Position Requirements
Education: University master degree - Electrical Engineering; Mechatronics Engineering; Automation Engineering; Computer Engineering.
Professional background
- Roles: Control Systems Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Automation Engineer, Safety Engineer, Mechatronics Engineer.
- Preferred Previous Experiences:
- Design and integration of safety-related control systems; Risk assessment and FMEA/DFMEA; Implementation of ISO 13849, IEC 61508, ISO 26262; IEC 62061 standards; SIL/PL calculation and validation; Testing and verification of safety functions.
- Years of Experience: 3–5 years in engineering roles related to functional safety.
- System Engineering expertise for complex mechatronic systems, including electronics (hardware and software), hydraulics, and mechanical components.
- Expertise in electrified drivetrains, including solutions with one or more inverters and electric motors for traction systems.
- Expertise in hydrostatic transmissions.
- Proven theoretical and practical knowledge of:
- ISO 13849
- ISO 25119
- ISO 19014.
- Performance Level (PL) calculation (including use of tools such as SISTEMA).
- Risk assessment and safety evaluation (Hazard Analysis, Risk Reduction).
- FMEA / FMEDA / DFMEA (failure mode identification and mitigation).
- Diagnostic principles and Diagnostic Coverage (DC) (fault detection, periodic tests).
- Knowledge of safety-related components (sensors, actuators, safety PLCs, relays).
- MTTFd and B10d calculation (component reliability).
- Familiarity with related standards (IEC 61508, IEC 62061, EN ISO 12100).
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and logic diagrams.
- Safety compliance documentation (Safety Requirements Specification, Validation Plan).
- Considered as a plus:
- Knowledge of ISO 26262 for automotive functional safety.
- Knowledge of EN 1175 and EN 1459.
- Knowledge of Machinery Regulation - 2023/1230
- Experience with cybersecurity standards (e.g., ISO/SAE 21434) for secure system design.
- Knowledge of CRA Regulation (EU) 2024/2847.
- Familiarity with electrification technologies beyond traction systems (e.g., battery management systems).
- Understanding of autonomous and semi-autonomous systems and related safety concepts.
- Experience with simulation tools for safety analysis (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, Medini Analyze).
- Competence in reliability engineering (e.g., RAMS analysis, fault tree analysis).
- Project management skills for safety-related development processes.
- Experience with certification processes and interaction with notified bodies.
- Familiarity with software development lifecycle and coding standards (e.g., MISRA C).
