Job Title: CAE Machine Learning Engineer

Location: Remote

Role Summary

We are seeking a CAE Machine Learning Engineer to help accelerate Innovative Numerics’ product roadmap by designing, building, and validating capabilities for structural simulation and mechanical design workflows. This role spans applied research, software development, and customer‑facing technical work, including testing, pre‑sales support, and consulting.

Responsibilities
  • Support product acceleration and business activities, which may include:
  • building tools and test harnesses
  • improving reliability, performance, and usability
  • creating demos and technical collateral
  • assisting with pre‑sales, technical discussions and evaluations
  • contributing to consulting engagements (FEA problem framing, workflow setup, results interpretation)
  • Customs software development with Abaqus
  • Validate and benchmark methods on representative datasets, benchmarks, and real‑world customer use cases; document performance and limitations.
  • Review and synthesize literature: On applying machine learning and deep learning to mechanical design, structural simulation, and optimization problems; summarize best approaches and practical learnings for product use.
  • Propose ML/DL architectures and workflows that capture domain‑specific heuristics for structural simulation and design optimization across diverse problem classes.
  • Develop and integrate prototypes/frameworks using strong software engineering practices and deep learning libraries; contribute directly to product plans and timelines.
Qualifications Required
  • Strong hands‑on experience with Python for scientific/engineering computing.
  • CAE/FEA experience and terminology (meshing, BCs, material models, solver outputs, interpretation)
  • Comfort working across research + engineering + customer needs in a fast‑moving environment.
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote setting with cross‑time‑zone collaboration.
Nice to Have Skills
  • CAE background: with exposure to structural simulation workflows
  • Structural mechanics / computational mechanics
  • Abaqus FEA experience (running jobs, post‑processing, automation, scripting, workflows)
