This position emphasizes collaboration and requires calm execution under time-sensitive conditions.
Alcova seeks an assistant to the head of production, 2 years minimum experience in production. Main tasks are to help oversee the physical realization of its exhibitions, working across multiple sites and timeframes.
The role focuses on supporting the production manager in translating curatorial intent into built reality within complex, often fragile or decommissioned buildings. The Production Team operates at the center of the project, aligning construction teams, curators, exhibitors, suppliers, and site constraints into a coherent and functioning exhibition environment. The role involves coordinating with the Tech Team in the preparation of exhibition spaces from early site access through public opening and support the Production Manager in working closely with construction teams, technicians, installers, and suppliers, ensuring work progresses safely, efficiently, and in line with agreed plans.
The position requires continuous liaison with the Production Manager, the Tech Team and the Curatorial Team. Understanding specific spatial, technical, and logistical needs, translating them into practical solutions also through the use of software such as AutoCAD 2D+3D and Adobe Suite, and integrating them within the broader exhibition framework is an essential requirement. The role demands a proactive attitude, anticipation of risks and structured troubleshooting, particularly during build‑up and live exhibition days, when issues arise under time pressure and require rapid, clear decision‑making.
During the exhibition period, the Production Assistant oversees ongoing technical operations, refers issues to the Head of Production as they emerge, and maintains coordination between staff members to ensure visitors' safety and exhibitors' functionality. Following the event, the role helps manage dismantling, reinstatement of sites, and coordination of departures, ensuring buildings are returned according to agreements and timelines.
The position requires prior experience in exhibition, fair, or large‑scale temporary event environments. Familiarity with complex venues, adaptive reuse contexts, or heritage buildings represents a strong asset. The role demands strong organizational skills, calm execution under pressure, and clear communication across disciplines. Alcova values collaborative working methods, reliability, and a pragmatic approach grounded in real‑world production experience.
The Production Assistant works closely with the Head of Operation and a committed, international team and plays a decisive role in shaping how Alcova's spaces function and are experienced. Spoken and written English and Italian are necessary as well as being based in Milan.
