ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking to bolster our user experience team that focuses on all interactions players enjoy outside our games and the parts that connect to our ecosystem inside of games. It’s our job to make sure that every part of the player’s journey with is simple, intuitive, and most importantly, fun. That means working with key stakeholders across the business to help design and bring new user experience flows to life – all before a single line of code is written. Since everything we do is enjoyed by millions of players worldwide every single day, it’s important that we get these decisions right.

If you’re able to bring solid visual design and execution leadership to a highly driven, fastmoving, and talented team, you’ll fit right in. Reporting to the Chief Product Officer and working closely with product managers, owners, specialists, designers, business analysts, and development teams, this is a hands-on role that can be on the ground with the team in Gibraltar or Malta, or remote.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Core Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the product team to help conceptualise and iterate new designs for customers. While the role’s primary focus will be to execute and iterate through designs and prototypes, your input as part of the initial creative process is valuable. This will include participating in design reviews, team meetings, and brainstorming sessions.
  • Meet with product, business analysis, and development teams to discuss the designs and prototypes. While these can ultimately help aid define the specification, building the products may require clarification and assistance, particularly if the development team is replicating challenging design patterns, animation sequences, and transitions.
  • Assist the product and business analysis teams with questions about the designs and to help guide the specifications. This will require flow and scenario testing, which may require revisions to the designs for edge cases.
  • Create working Figma components and update design systems and patterns that are already in place. This may include many different sizes and breakpoints to accommodate all manner of devices, screen orientations, and resolutions. You will be very hands-on and need to understand the technical aspects of actual UI component design.
  • Present concepts clearly, concisely, and effectively to the team and to stakeholders.
  • Adjust designs based on feedback from stakeholders or from broader technical challenges, constraints, or limitations that may arise during the production process.
  • Prepare tidy, thoughtful, and well-structured source files for development and supervise their implementation to ensure they are delivered according to the original vision.
  • Where possible, take new design solutions and bring them to life by creating mobile and desktop prototypes. Those will be used to get a sense of how they will function in practice, help solve animation and interaction sequences and foster critical fine-tuning feedback from stakeholders. While static images give a great impression of the functionality, seeing it in action is even more valuable.
  • Feedback on other proposed designs and requirements within the team, particularly in cases where it may affect the dependencies and connected interaction design.
  • Document new controls and designs so that other team members (or other teams) clearly understand the design decisions and how to use, implement, or maintain the outputs.
  • Update design systems and common controls where necessary to ensure that iterations are then fully documented, updated, and usable by the rest of the team.
  • Liaise with other design teams throughout the business to ensure broad alignment with design systems and characteristics.
  • Create high-fidelity concepts and designs from the outset. While we may occasionally use coarser wireframes, we typically dig directly into the details from the outset to flesh out issues and understand how it will work practically.

Strategic Responsibilities

  • When executing designs, you need to consider how it fits within the broader system and how we may want to address other areas for consistency. This needs to be a measured and phased approach with a thoughtful application of prioritisation to address matters now versus later.
  • Keep an eye on broader design trends and tools, especially within the gaming and entertainment spaces, to ensure that we are keeping up with best design practices and exceeding customer expectations.
  • Provide thoughtful, considered feedback on the overall roadmap and user experience strategy.
WHAT WE ASK OF YOU

Education, Qualifications, and Background

  • You should have experience in a product or creative related field (such as a UI/UX designer), ideally with experience in iGaming.
  • You should be able to understand the mindset of a gaming customer and balance those with the needs of our business-to-business clients.
  • You must have built sophisticated, high-fidelity, production-like prototypes for mobile and desktop interfaces.

Key Experience Areas

  • You must be completely proficient with design tools such as Figma or Sketch.
  • You should have a clear understanding of usability, user-centred design, and web standards.
  • You should be very comfortable with prototyping. Extremely high-fidelity prototyping using advanced tools like Origami Studio is a big advantage.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe’s Creative Cloud Suite, particularly Photoshop and Illustrator is advantageous.
  • Having the ability to delve into graphic design, motion graphics, animation, or video outside of product and UI design is a plus.
  • Ideally you will have some technical background or knowledge. Understanding how developers build the interfaces and the challenges they face is tremendously valuable when designing solutions. Having the ability to code in HTML or CSS is advantageous.

Personal Characteristics

  • Operate at different levels seamlessly. While this is a senior role that needs to operate strategically, you need to be able to dip directly into the details at the drop of a hat and provide direct assistance or contribution.
  • Be exceptionally well-organised. There are going to be a lot of moving parts to this role so you must bring method and structure to your approach.
  • Be extremely creative – this is a role that specifically designs experiences for players to have fun.
  • Be obsessed with details and optimisations. Creating amazing player experiences means scrutinising every detail to ensure that you’re constantly delivering the best possible solution. In a such a highly competitive industry, small details can make a big difference.
  • Take critical feedback well. A lot of different stakeholders are going to be looking at the designs and prototypes and providing their input – this is a critical part of the collaboration process. Knowing how to accept and act on feedback is vital to this role.
  • Discuss constructively and diplomatically. Having many different views means that we won’t always agree – but we need to focus on collaborating solutions that deliver optimal outcomes for our customers.
  • Be an expert communicator both visually and verbally. Your designs and prototypes should nearly speak for themselves; however, you still need to be able to walk different audiences through them in detail. For example, explaining them to stakeholders versus relaying the details to development.
  • Exude transparency, openness, and objectivity. We’re all here to build great things and need to collaborate effectively.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment and be able to work to very tight deadlines. We work to visualise things quickly and make decisions to push the business forward.
WHAT WE OFFER IN EXCHANGE
  • Private health insurance
  • Gym membership
  • Real career growth (we promote from within — no gatekeeping here)
  • Grow with ARRISE | Learning Hub—personalized learning, gamified growth, and endless career development at your fingertips.
