Location: Peterborough (with regular travel to London)

Contract: 14 Month - FTC

Team: The Finance team plays a critical role in the success of News UK, operating as one cohesive unit across multiple locations to deliver a positive, productive, and highly efficient department. This role is based in Peterborough, with regular travel to our Head Office in London.

Role: As a Junior Sales and Marketing Accountant, you will work within the News UK Finance team, supporting key financial processes, reporting, and analysis. You will help ensure the smooth operation of our marketing costs, revenue streams, and brand extensions, while maintaining a strong focus on accuracy, efficiency, and collaboration with stakeholders across the business.

You will also play a key role in reconciling accounts, managing subscription billing exceptions, and proactively identifying risks and opportunities. This is an exciting opportunity for someone actively studying for a professional accounting qualification (ACCA or CIMA) who is eager to make a meaningful impact in a dynamic media environment.

Day to Day You Will:

1. Prepare weekly submissions, reporting, and analysis of marketing costs, revenue, and brand extensions.
2. Complete monthly reporting, reconciling actual spend and revenues while identifying and communicating variances.
3. Manage GRNI balance sheet accounts, investigating balances and resolving blocked/parked items.
4. Perform balance sheet reconciliations and provide monthly commentary.
5. Monitor subscription billing exception reports and fraud reporting, flagging issues immediately.
6. Ensure marketing trackers align with SAP through weekly checks and address discrepancies.
7. Collaborate with the Sales & Marketing team in London to ensure timely and accurate processing of POs and invoices.
8. Liaise with the Accounts Payable department to resolve payment and invoice queries.
9. Approve daily payment runs and produce sundry sales invoices for brand extensions.
10. Support the wider team (Sales & Marketing and Editorial), providing cover for team members as needed.

What We Are Looking for in You:

1. Actively studying for a professional accounting qualification (ACCA or CIMA) with relevant experience.
2. Strong analytical and data interpretation skills, with proficiency in systems such as Excel, TM1, and SAP.
3. Ability to manage complex reporting processes and analyse large, incomplete datasets, presenting trends and conclusions to non-finance stakeholders.
4. Proactive in identifying opportunities for improvement, simplification, and efficiency.
5. Understanding of The Times Media titles and their key drivers.
6. Enthusiasm and curiosity to understand marketing costs, identify risks, and improve processes through questioning and collaboration.
7. Effective communication skills, with the ability to engage across a wide range of stakeholders, including Finance Directors.
8. Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and focus on key areas.
9. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
