Evening Library Manager (North Team)

UNIVERSITY OF THE ARTS
London
GBP 60,000 - 80,000
Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced librarian to play a key managerial role within our evening library service across Central Saint Martins, Chelsea College of Arts and London College of Fashion.

As an Evening Library Manager, you will lead a team of staff across the 3 colleges to ensure the development and delivery of high-quality, customer-focused, library services that support learning, teaching, and research activities.

Drawing on your strong customer service skills, you will respond to a range of enquiries from library users on referencing, research skills, digital skills, borrowing, memberships, collections, copyright, and information. You will also provide first line support for library software and equipment.

In addition to your customer service and management responsibilities, you will help facilitate access to physical and digital collections, utilising the library management system to maintain library records and promote collections to inform and inspire student research.

The service runs during undergraduate term-time (3 terms per year), Monday to Friday 18:00 to 22:15. This is a 38-week contract (pro-rata), 21.25 hours per week, equating to 0.51 FTE. Depending on the academic year, 31 weeks are worked in the evening, and other hours (reserve hours) will be used for training, attending meetings, and working during the day as arranged with your line manager.

About you

We are looking for a well-qualified librarian with a degree level library qualification (or equivalent), who possesses experience of supervising or managing staff and services in a library (or similar environment).

You will need strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to make people feel welcome. As a strong active listener, you will also be able to listen to service users and respond in a diplomatic and inclusive manner.

Advanced research and digital skills are essential, along with an understanding of databases and collection care.
