Job summary
A leading engineering company is seeking a Technical Contracts Engineer to manage incoming project enquiries and develop detailed work packages. The ideal candidate should have at least 3 years of engineering experience, a Level 3 qualification, and proficiency in reading technical drawings and 2D CAD. You will prepare quotations, monitor project performance, and provide technical support throughout contract delivery. Offering a salary between £40,000 and £44,000 annually, the role is based in West Midlands.

- Eligible for UK Government security clearance under UKSV procedures.

Straight‑Line are currently hiring a Technical Contracts Engineer to be based in Walsall, West Midlands.
- Manage and process incoming project enquiries
- Analyse requirements and compile detailed cost breakdowns (materials, labour, tooling, etc.)
- Prepare accurate quotations and estimate man‑hours
- Process customer purchase orders and raise internal procurement requests
- Develop detailed work packages and distribute documentation to production teams
- Monitor project performance, budgets, and key milestones
- Liaise closely with QA and production teams to ensure smooth project execution
- Provide ongoing technical support and clarification throughout contract delivery
- Design and assist with the development of bespoke fixtures and jigs
- Support the integration of new equipment and manufacturing technologies
- Assist with preparation of dispatch and invoicing documentation
- Follow up on previous quotations and gather client feedback
- Minimum 3 years' experience in an engineering or technical environment
- Level 3 or higher engineering qualification (or equivalent hands‑on experience)
- Solid understanding of engineering principles and practical trigonometry
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings/specifications
- Experience with 2D CAD and Microsoft Office
- Strong interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Eligible for UK Government security clearance under UKSV procedures
- Experience in manufacturing environments involving pressure vessels, pipework, or heavy fabrication
- Familiarity with QA procedures and production scheduling
- Exposure to managing contracts in energy, oil & gas, or similar sectors
Salary: £40,000 to £44,000
