Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a developmental Band 7-8a Clinical/Forensic Psychologist or experienced 8a Clinical/Forensic Psychologist developmental to join an established team of Clinical and Forensic Psychologists in the Secure Services at Brooklands Hospital. This is a full-time position primarily based within the autism low secure service, with some hours in the LD secure services. The secure service ethos is to help and support people who present considerable risk to others (as well as themselves) to return to a less restrictive environment and/or the community as soon as possible. The contribution of psychological services is highly valued within the teams and service management and is fully integrated within collaborative multi-disciplinary teams. Positive Behavioural Support is a key component of our treatment approach and philosophy and the successful candidate will work closely with others on developing new and existing service projects, develop new and existing group programmes and provide support in training others. There is lots of personal and service development opportunity within this role.

The psychology department at Brooklands is a well-established and supportive service and the successful applicant will receive support to further develop their skills and knowledge through good quality supervision and training opportunities. The teamwork includes approaches such as CBT, CAT, CFT, EMDR and Schema Therapy. We provide a number of well-established and structured offence group programmes as part of the service user\'s comprehensive treatment pathway. All members of the psychology team receive excellent support, good supervision and opportunities for continuing professional development.

Responsibilities
  • Assessments, individual and group therapies, team formulations, and reflective practice for service users.
  • Develop and lead on new and existing service projects and group programmes.
  • Provide training to ward staff and multidisciplinary colleagues; supervise others (qualified psychologists and non-psychologists) as required.
  • Contribute to service development projects, audits, and research.
  • Support and develop forensic assessment skills and therapeutic skills within the service model.
  • Involvement in bringing together a collaborative multi-disciplinary approach within the secure services.
Qualifications and experience
  • Post-qualification experience of working with forensic populations and/or experience of working with people with intellectual disabilities and/or autism who present considerable risk to others (desirable).
  • Ability to provide psychological assessments, individual and group therapies, formulations, and reflective practice.
  • Potential to supervise others and contribute to training and service development.
  • Willingness to engage in audit, research and continued professional development.
  • Support for progression to Band 8a through a preceptorship programme if currently eligible for development post, with a pathway to Band 8a within up to two years; if competencies to progress are not fully met, role remains at Band 7.
