The 2025 Our Voice Bursary aims to support two artists of the Global Majority for one year, to develop as choreographers and to build connections in the arts sector in Wales, leading to touring and presenting opportunities for their work.

In partnership with Ballet Cymru, the bursary is for artists of the Global Majority seeking to develop as choreographers.

Two recipients will be selected through an open process, prioritizing those with a rigorous, equitable choreographic practice for public benefit, with less than two years of touring experience.

Supported for one year (September 2025 - August 2026), recipients will receive:

1. Monthly mentoring sessions with Ballet Cymru staff;
2. Support from artist and Our Voice Network founder Krystal S. Lowe, including application and CV writing, feedback, and sector connections;
3. A public showcase of their work at the 2026 Our Voice Sharing at Ballet Cymru, produced by Krystal S. Lowe;
4. A bursary of £600 for expenses and development.

Ballet Cymru will also facilitate paid work placements and choreographic opportunities during the year, at Ballet Cymru or elsewhere.

How to Apply:

• Applicants must be of the Global Majority, passionate about creating dance for public benefit, and focused on developing as choreographers;
• Applicants must have less than two years of experience in presenting and touring their work;
• Applicants must be based in Wales;
• Applicants can work in any movement-based dance form.

*Our Voice Network defines the Global Majority as those from or descended from Africa and Asia.

Timeline:

• March 31 - Applications open
• July - Interviews
• August 4 - Selection decision
• September - Bursary commencement event

The bursaries are funded by Ballet Cymru.

• Who they are, what matters to them, and their interests;
• The purpose of sharing their choreographic practice publicly;
• The support needed to develop their choreographic career.
