Main duties of the job
  • Provide high-quality, holistic care to registered patients, including consultations, diagnosis, treatment, and appropriate referrals.

  • Manage acute, chronic, and complex health conditions in line with NICE and national clinical guidelines.

  • Conduct face-to-face, telephone, and online consultations, ensuring accurate and timely clinical documentation.

  • Participate in routine duties such as prescriptions, results review, and patient correspondence.

  • Contribute to practice-wide clinical governance, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Collaborate with the wider multidisciplinary team, including nurses, pharmacists, and PCN staff, to deliver coordinated patient care.

  • Engage in regular clinical meetings, CPD activities, and appraisals to support revalidation and professional development.

    You will be working primarily at Mayfield Surgery one of the 3 surgeries within the Maple Access Partnership group.

    We are in purpose-built premises close to a community hub

    Our health space also hosts community services such as Health Visitors, Midwives, Psychological Therapies, Podiatry, Dentistry, Physiotherapy - to name a few.

    We have a strong Nursing team and Medicines Management team, as well as a number of Doctors, Physiotherapists and Clinical Pharmacists.

    • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
    • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
    • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
    • Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols
    • Providing counselling and health education
    • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate
    • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
    • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
    • Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
    • In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
