The Trauma & Orthopaedic department at The Rotherham NHSFoundation Trust are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a highlymotivated individual to join our team as a Senior Knee Fellow.This fellowship is designed for individuals who wish to gain advanced expertisein all aspects of soft tissue and complex arthroplasty.

The fellowship is based at a high-volume centre with a strongacademic and teaching ethos, providing a rich environment for clinical andprofessional development. Thisfellowship will commence in or shortly after October 2025.

You will work closely with 2 principle surgeons with over 25 yearson Consultant experience in knee surgery and robotics and will be actively involvedin surgical planning, operative procedures, research initiatives, andmultidisciplinary case discussions. The role offers significant autonomy whileensuring robust supervision and mentorship to refine subspecialty skills andprepare for consultant practice.

ClinicalPractice:Participate in outpatient clinics, ward rounds, and operating lists focused onprimary, complex, and revision knee arthroplasty, as well as sports-relatedprocedures.

SurgicalTraining: Gain hands-on experience with exposure to advanced knee surgerytechniques and robotics under consultant supervision along some independentoperating.

MultidisciplinaryCollaboration: Contribute to case planning and management within MDT settings.

Teaching& Education: Support the education of junior trainees and medical studentsthrough bedside teaching and formal presentations.

Research: Engage inongoing clinical research projects and audits. Opportunities exist to co-authorpeer-reviewed publications and present at national/international meetings.

On-CallDuties: There are no on call commitments with this post however there aresome internal locum opportunities available.

We are supported by one Associate Specialist, Mr Rocha and a furtherOrthopaedic Consultant, Mr Saeed Ali.The other doctors/ANPs within the department include by four SASgrades, five STRs, two Wrightington Fellows, six ANPs (Advanced NursePractitioners), one FY two, two FY ones, and five Junior Clinical Fellows.

The department has two wards for theirpatients, Fitzwilliam for Trauma and Rockingham ward for electiveadmissions. We have 20 ring-fenced bedsin Rockingham ward for the elective patients.

The Rotherham Foundation Trust is partof a new surgical Orthopaedic centre of excellence - Mexborough ElectiveOrthopaedic Centre. This is acollaborative project with local hospitals within the ICS and is part of ourelective orthopaedic surgical capacity.

The department prides itself in providing the best teaching and trainingatmosphere for the Resident doctors. Twoof our consultants have won the regional Trainer of the Year award. Mr Kocheta is the Director of MedicalEducation for the Trust, Mr Wembridge is an FRCS examiner and Mr Paniker is anexaminer for the British Hand Diploma. MrHalsey is the chair of the AO Hand and Wrist trauma courses, Mr Garnetiinitiated the South Yorkshire Orthopaedic Courses (www.syoc.co.uk) and MrKocheta runs the upper limb trauma course (www.upperlimbtrauma.org). There isweekly Thursday lunchtime teaching supported by consultants.

The soft tissue knee unitperform uni-compartment knee replacements as day surgery procedures. Thedepartment were double finalists for the HSJ 2019 awards for the work done toreduce mortality in patients with NOF fractures.

The department works closely with the MSK triage services to improve thereferral pathways for our patients. Wehave also recently successfully implemented the virtual fracture clinic in ourdepartment.

The Post

The primary clinical responsibilities of the postholder are:

to assist in the provisions of a Consultant led trauma and orthopaedic servicefor in-patients, day cases and out-patients, with continuing responsibility forthe patients and their care and for the proper functioning of the department;

to carry out teaching duties as required and, in particular, to take anactive part in the education programme of junior medical staff;

participate fully in audit and the implementation of ClinicalGovernance and CNST,

deputise for absent colleagues and offer advice and guidance inaddition to overseeing the day-to-day management of the department,

be available for such irregular commitments outside normally rosteredduties, as are essential for continuity of patient care.

Ensure Trust Information Governance policy and best practice is followed(including confidentiality and data quality) to ensure data quality ismaximised and confidentiality of information is maintained and applied to alldata recorded, utilised and reported on.

The Consultant with whom you are teamed will havefull continuing responsibility for the care of patients and the provision oforthopaedic treatment, which is relevant to their medical condition whilst inhospital. This may require theprovision of advice and assistance to / from colleagues in other specialtiesand the proper delegation of the treatment of patients under his/her care tojunior staff, which should include an element of training and education. The post holder will be expected andencouraged by the Consultant to carry out any research activities, which are aninherent part of normal clinical duties.
