One full time or two part time roles are available to Clinical or Counselling Psychologists or Registered Psychotherapists including Arts Psychotherapists.We are a friendly and committed with a strongvalues base around promoting and upholding psychological approaches for people in mental distress. We have a range of therapists offering group, individual andfamily intervention in a variety of models. We are particularly interested in EMDR, relational, CAT and other integrative approaches, as well as embodied approaches to work with Complex PTSD and complex needs.

The post holder will link with the wider adult mental healthteams within Devon Partnership NHS Trust, providing specialist psychologicalassessments and therapy, for individuals, groups and families as well as teamconsultations and the supervision of staff. As a member of the clinical team thesuccessful applicant will support the Professional lead on issues of clinicalgovernance, evaluation and the management of waiting lists

The Psychology and Psychological Therapies Service is professionally managed andoffers support and close links with other psychologists through peer supervision, CPD events and teammeetings. There are also good links withthe two local DClinPsy training courses and the post holder may berequired to provide clinical placements and supervision to trainees.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a clinician who feelsconfident providing individual and group psychological therapy/interventionsand who feels passionate about their practice, professional and personaldevelopment. The post-holder will provide a direct service to clients through arange of modalities, potentially contributing to our individual, group andfamily therapy provision.

The post-holder will be committed to workingwith colleagues of different professions and different organisations to deliver,and support the delivery of, psychologically-informed, trauma-informed servicesand support the local development of a Psychology Informed Environment. Thepost-holder will become an important part of the teams withwhich we work; working to ensure that every client receives high quality careby offering psychological and psychotherapeutic opinion in MDTs, supporting thework within our core mental health teams, through consultation,supervision, the facilitation of reflective practice groups and the provisionof training and joint working.

While working alongside an 8A PPT staff member in thelocality, you will have the ability to work both autonomously and as part of aclinical team. The post-holder will be required and able to access supervisionappropriate to the level of experience and training. They will be supported to prioritisetasks, and manage their own workload.

Job responsibilities

The principal purpose of the job is to improve thepsychological health & wellbeing of people within the post holdersspecialist field of practice.This will be achieved in this post through undertaking thefollowing areas of responsibility:

1.Providing a Clinical/CounsellingPsychology or Psychotherapy service to peoplereferred to the service as a key component of services provided by Devon Partnership Trust

2.Providing local clinical leadership,co-ordination and supervision fortrainees and volunteers employed by or attached to the psychologyservice, under the general direction and supervision of the Professional Lead

3.Carrying a specialist caseload ofclients, and providing advice and consultancy to patients, family members,carers and professionals.

4.To provide clinical supervision andconsultation to the wider community mental health teams in the locality as partof integrated mental health team working.

5.The post holder will be supported bysenior colleagues within their specialist field. The post holder will beexpected to make good use of the expertise of others within the service tofurther develop their clinical skills with this client group.

6. To workautonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for thesystematic governance of psychological practice within the service / localteam.

7. The post holderwill receive regular professional and clinical supervision in accordance toTrust policy and to Professional Practice Guidelines set out by the BritishPsychological Society or appropriate designated Professional Body. Observe,and abide by all relevant Professional Codes of Conduct and Practise includingthe British Psychological Society. The post holder will be fullyregistered with the Health Professions Council as a condition of employment.

Communication and Working Relationships

  • Clients,family and carers: To communicate in a highly skilled and sensitive manner withclients who may have specific difficulties in understand and/or communicatingand who may be hostile, antagonistic or highly emotionally disturbed.
  • Multidisciplinaryteam colleagues: To work closely with colleagues in the multi-professionalintegrated mental health and wellbeing service on a day to day basis.
  • Health& social care staff: To communicate with a wide range of health & social care staffin hospital and in community settings in a highly skilled and sensitivemanner, complex and sensitive information concerning the assessment,formulation and treatment plans of clients under the services care. Toprovide support & guidance in the application of psychological principlesand techniques, and to foster reflective practice.
  • Seniormanagers & professional staff: To maintain and build good working relationshipswith senior professional staff and managers across the Psychology and Therapyservice and in DPT to foster a positive approach to the integrated mentalhealth and wellbeing service and to enable effective negotiation.

Planning and Organisation

  • The service: To plan and prioritise own workload, balancing thedemands of patient care, support and guidance of carers and professionalsand service research and development activities.
  • Tocontribute to the planning and organising of the psychology and therapyservices within the locality area and to contribute to the development andimprovement of provision of psychological services within services to bestmeet the organisations strategy and priorities.
  • Themultidisciplinary service: To provide psychology/therapy knowledge to themulti-professional planning, development and marketing of mental health andwellbeing services.
  • Responsibility for Judgement and Analysis
  • Toprovide specialist clinical/counselling psychology/psychological therapy expertiseand advice.
  • Toprovide psychological therapies/other therapies, developing specialistpsychological formulations and assessments of clients, formulating plansfor their psychological treatment and implementing specialist psychologicalinterventions for individuals, carers, families and groups.
  • To support theProfessional Head, General Manager, Practice and Strategic DevelopmentLeads and Professional Leads by undertaking service development andredesign projects and coordinating the resulting work within the team.

Responsibility for Patient/ClientCare, Treatment and Therapy

  • Assessment & intervention: To make highly skilledevaluations and decisions about assessment, treatment and discharge,including the management of risk. To formulate plans for psychologicaltreatment and implementing specialist psychological interventions forindividuals, carers, families and groups and to demonstrate awareness ofdiversity issues.
  • Consultation & guidance: To provide advice,guidance and consultation on psychological aspects of patient care tocolleagues, other service providers, patients, supporters and families.

Policy, Service, Research, Innovation andImprovement

  • The post holder is accountable for their own professionalactions, acting within Trust policies and procedures and ProfessionalPractice Guidelines.
  • Policy & service: To support proposed changes forpolicy and for service development.

Responsibility for Finance, Equipment andOther Resources

  • Careful use of equipment.

Responsibility forSupervision, Leadership and Management

  • Leadership & supervision: To supervise the work of assistants&/or trainees as required. To provide supervision & consultancy tohealth and social care colleagues.
  • To support placements for trainee staff in line withprofessional guidelines

Information Resources and AdministrativeDuties

  • To maintain accurate records, compliant with TrustPractice Standards.
  • To be responsible for using an email account to generate,monitor, and respond to the e-mail traffic by which the Trust conducts muchof its internal communication.

Responsibility for Research and Development

  • Toutilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidencebased practice in individual work within the PPT and local mental healthservices.
  • Tosupport project work including specific areas of audit, research or serviceevaluation
  • As a clinician to be responsible forcollecting clinical practice and outcome data that contributes to buildingpractice based evidence and service evaluation.

Freedom to Act

  • Thepost holder is accountable for their own professional actions, acting withinTrust policies and procedures and Professional Practice Guidelines
  • To work autonomously withinclinical professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for thegovernance of psychological practice within the locality/specialty. Interpretationof professional and Trustguidelines,and implementing policies in conjunction with peers, Head of Profession andGeneral Manager.
  • Toprovide specialist clinical/counselling psychology/psychotherapy expertiseand advice guidance and consultation on psychologicalaspects of patient care to colleagues, other service providers, patients,supporters and families.

Any Other Specific Tasks Required

  • To ensure all clinical care and treatment provided bypsychologists/therapists is carried out under appropriate supervision andleadership.
  • To ensure that all relevant staff groups continuouslyupdate the skills and techniques relevant to their clinical work.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist (D.Clin.Psychol. or equivalent) and eligible for Chartered Clinical or Counselling Psychologist Status in the British Psychological Society and registered with HCPC. Psychological Therapists need to be trained to Masters level or equivalent in a specific psychological therapy and registered with an appropriate recognised professional body e.g. UKCP, BABCP.
  • Further training or experience in clinical specialism
  • IT Skills
  • Further training in related area.
  • Further training in at least one (other) psychological therapy
