Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Special Needs Specialist to work specifically with a Year 8 student cohort that begins as soon as possible in a welcoming secondary school. This temporary role offers the chance to make a direct impact on young people’s learning, confidence and wellbeing.

Responsibilities
  • Provide tailored one-to-one and small-group support for Year 8 pupils with a range of special educational needs (SEN).

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, the SENCo and external professionals to plan and implement individual education plans (IEPs).

  • Adapt lesson materials and learning strategies to meet diverse needs and ensure full curriculum access.

  • Foster social and emotional development, promoting independence and positive behaviour.

  • Monitor and record progress, sharing updates with staff and parents/carers.

Ideal candidate / Qualifications
  • Proven experience supporting students with SEN (e.g. ASD, ADHD, SEMH) in a secondary school or similar setting.

  • Strong understanding of inclusive practices and current SEN approaches.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills as Special Needs Specialist.

  • Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant certificate, SEN specialism or equivalent practical experience.
