An infrastructure services company in the UK is seeking a Works Train Technician (Electrical). The role involves servicing and maintaining Works Train equipment, ensuring safety and reliability. Key qualifications include HND/HNC in electrical disciplines and previous electrical maintenance experience. The candidate should possess strong communication skills in English and preferably French, along with a full UK driving license. This role requires adherence to Health and Safety regulations and effective teamwork.
Join our Infrastructure Works Train Department as a Works Train Technician (Electrical). You’ll play a key role in servicing and preparing Works Train equipment to ensure it is safe, reliable, and fit for purpose. This includes diagnosing and repairing electrical issues on a variety of equipment such as rubber‑tyred vehicles, on‑track plant, on‑track machines (OTMs), and locomotives.
Promote and adhere to Health & Safety regulations and safe working practices.
Perform planned maintenance and fault diagnosis on electro‑mechanical equipment.
Prepare equipment for service, including inspection and testing to meet operational demands.
Configure and operate Works Train equipment and locomotives within worksites.
Record and report equipment performance against agreed instructions and schedules.
Learn and use relevant computerised administrative systems.
Become qualified in the use of all relevant equipment (e.g., locomotives, MEWPs, HP wash, vacuum and drainage modules, electrical PSV vehicles, forklifts).
Understand and respect Health and Safety and operational procedures.
Perform planned maintenance of electro‑mechanical equipment in accordance with approved diagnostic procedures and instructions to ensure equipment is returned to service in a safe and timely manner.
Diagnose electrical faults and perform corrective maintenance to return equipment to service promptly and safely.
Prepare equipment for operational use, including inspection and testing to meet project requirements.
Configuration of Works Train equipment as required.
Operation of Works Train equipment and locomotives within worksites.
Use relevant computerised administrative systems.
Become qualified in the use of all relevant equipment (e.g. locomotives, MEWPs, HP wash, vacuum and drainage modules, electrical, PSV vehicles, forklifts, etc).
HND/HNC or equivalent in an electrical discipline. Alternatively, BTEC/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent combined with demonstrable technical experience.
Previous experience of working in an electrical or mechanical environment is essential.
Experience in electrical maintenance (domestic or industrial).
The ability to communicate in both English and French would be an advantage.
A full UK Driving Licence is essential.
A valid Passport is required for this role.

Willing and able to work a roster covering a 24‑hour period, 7 days a week.
Willing to participate in an on‑call roster.
Meets the required medical standards for the role.
