Job description
Overview

Reporting to the Warehouse manager, you will be responsible for managing a team of Operatives within the warehouse. You will ensure that daily workload is achieved whilst maintaining KPI targets. As part of a supervisory shift team, you will direct and control allocated areas of warehouse activity, meeting defined objectives and day-to-day operational requirements. You will work with other members of the operations team, supporting and communicating existing & new business development in line with operational functionality.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and motivate a team of 4 warehouse operatives to meet daily operational goals.
  • Manage goods-in, storage, order picking, packing, and outbound shipments efficiently.
  • Prioritise and uphold Health & Safety standards, conducting daily checks, reporting hazards, and ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Act as the on-site safety ambassador, supporting the delivery of toolbox talks, risk assessments, and safety audits in conjunction with the Health & Safety team.
  • Train team members in safe manual handling, equipment operation, and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain stock accuracy through cycle counts and system updates.
  • Plan workloads and delegate tasks to ensure smooth operation and timely dispatch.
  • Support incident investigations and promote a proactive safety culture.
  • Ensure the warehouse is always clean, tidy, and well-organised.
  • Operate forklifts or other equipment safely and ensure others do the same (where licensed).
  • Drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
  • Responsible for the overall productivity within the facility.
  • Maintain and improve performance levels to maximise the efficiency of the operation.
  • Advise, lead and motivate your team members.
  • Report all non-conformance issues to the Operations Manager.
  • Review timeliness of scheduled deliveries.
  • Make suggestions for productivity improvements.
  • Optimize employee workflow.
  • Determine and track most important warehouse KPIs.
  • Ensure that facility equipment is properly maintained.
  • Managing, evaluating and reporting on warehouse productivity.
  • Tracking and coordinating the receipt, storage, and timely delivery of goods and materials.
  • Performing a daily inspection of the warehouse.
  • Coordinating and maintaining fleets and equipment.
  • Communicating and coordinating with other departments and customers.
Additional Tasks
  • Support operational change and continuous improvement.
  • Recognise training needs and provide solutions.
  • Analyse shipment logs.
  • Track inventory levels.
  • Ensuring basic maintenance standards and compliance with health and safety regulations.
Skills and Experience
  • Proven experience in a warehouse or logistics team leader or supervisory role.
  • Demonstrable commitment to Health & Safety, with knowledge of safe systems of work and compliance standards.
  • Strong people management and leadership skills.
  • Good understanding of warehouse processes and stock control.
  • Experience using warehouse or ERP systems is advantageous.
  • Clear and confident communication and decision-making ability.
  • Forklift licence (Reach and/or Counterbalance) is desirable.
  • Physically fit, with a hands-on approach and strong work ethic.
