We have an opportunity for a motivated and inspirational Nurse to take up the role of Band 7 Ward Manager on Ward L34 at Leeds General Infirmary caring for Acute and Elective Orthopedic patients. Ward L34 is a mixed sex 23 bedded ward.

Main duties of the job

Thesuccessful candidate will provide strong managerial, clinical andprofessional and leadership to an established team of nurses. They will needto be an effective communicator and responsive problem solver with theability to thrive under pressure. There is an expectation that the successfulcandidate will work closely with the ward based multi-disciplinary team andalso work collaboratively within the wider Trauma & Related Services CSUand Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

About us

TheJobholder will carry 24 hour continuing responsibility for the effective andefficient management of the ward/department. They will provide professional,clinical, managerial leadership and supervision for the nursing team. Thejobholder is responsible for developing and maintaining a ward ordepartments philosophy that has the patient at the centre of compassionatesafe and quality care delivery. Through managing the administrative andfinancial aspects of the ward, the jobholder will ensure cost effective useof resources.

Job responsibilities

PRINCIPALDUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Leadership

Provide leadership to the clinicalteam

Support and inspire staff toprovide efficient, effective, safe, quality care to patients

Deliver a positive patientexperience

Promote the building of effectiveteams and collaboration between teams

Anticipate problems and takepreventative or mitigating actions, orhave contingency plans available

Work with Matron to lead thedevelopment of ward/department nursing practice, reflecting the ClinicalService Unit and Trust businessplans

Work with the Matron and or Head ofNursing to suggest and develop new roles/ways of working

Delegate and empower staff whilstmaintaining overall, continuing responsibility and accountability

Line manage the nursing team,including individual and team performance, attendance, management andworkforce planning

Ensure the effective deployment ofstaff is mapped against the flow of patients to provide safe and effectivecare

Support and participate in localand trustwide recruitment events

Manage the use of bank and agency

Investigate and respond toaccidents, complaints, untoward incidents and other significant events

Deliver an effective, safe, qualityservice within budgetary envelope

Raise and respond to concerns withregards to risk, danger, malpractice or wrongdoing by following the LTHTwhistle blowing policy and supporting processes

Deputise for Matron in theirabsence
