Job description
Overview

Reporting to the Ward Manager, the successful Ward Healthcare Assistant will assist the qualified nurses to provide a high standard of care for all patients during their admission/visit to One Hatfield Hospital. You will follow hospital policy and national guidelines to ensure care and safety.

WORKING HOURS: 32.5 per week Mon-Sun Shift Pattern.

One Hatfield Hospital is Hertfordshire's newest private hospital and has the very latest technology ensuring that our operating theatres provide patients and employees with the very best environment to keep them safe and free from infection. Our private hospital is home to specialist rehabilitation physiotherapy and outpatient diagnostic facilities including fast-track access to X-ray, MRI and ultrasound. Responsibilities
  • Support RGNs in the implementation of an agreed plan of care with the patient.
  • Help promote and maintain a caring, supportive environment focused on meeting the needs of the patient/relatives/carer, working collaboratively with other departments.
  • Look after the physical comfort of patients, for example helping them with activities of daily living.
  • Take basic observations such as blood pressure and temperature, height and weight, utilising the early warning score system as per hospital policy and escalate appropriately to the trained nurse.
  • Listen and talk to patients, helping them to feel supported and safe.
  • Assist with keeping the department clean and tidy, for example cleaning of equipment, adhering to infection prevention and control policy and hospital procedures at all times.
  • Keep supplies and equipment in order, assisting in the maintenance of stock levels.
  • Maintain contemporaneous patient records including patient pathways and the relevant IT reporting systems up-to-date and accurate, countersigned by a trained nurse.
  • Chaperone when required.
  • Participate in basic wound care management as required.
  • Deal with patient/relative complaints at the time if possible; escalate to appropriate staff if needed.
  • Report complaints, compliments and untoward incidents via Datix as per hospital policy.
Qualifications
  • Minimum GCSE education or equivalent.
  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent preferred.
Experience
  • Ability to learn and develop.
  • Some health care experience in a hospital environment.
