Job Details

Job Title: Waking Night Support Worker - Supported Living (Learning disabilities & Autism)

Location: Consett, Head Office is Lumley Park, Chester Le Street.

Reports to: Senior Support Worker/Registered Manager

Hours: Full-time/Part-time roles available on a 2-week rolling rota, shifts start 8pm and finish 8:30am

Hourly rate: Starting from £13.50

Team to People

We are recruiting a team to support a young adult within their first home. Providing care, support and creativity to engage and enrich this person’s life. To build a good rapport with this young person and support them whilst they navigate into a new environment and routine.

Job Purpose

To provide high-quality, person-centred support for people with additional needs and autism. Our waking night support worker will work on a 2:1 staffing ratio, supporting within a home environment to ensure the safety and comfort within the home during out of hours.

Key Responsibilities
  • To remain alert and responsive to the needs of the people within the home during the night.
  • Housekeeping, support with maintaining high levels of cleanliness throughout the home.
  • Provide practical and emotional support tailored to the individual’s needs, preferences, and care plans.
  • Work on a 2:1 basis to ensure the safety, dignity, and well-being of the people supported.
  • Promote independence by encouraging daily living skills and personal care.
  • Implement and follow individualised support plans, risk assessments, and behaviour support strategies.
  • Provide personal care support in accordance with care plans. Build positive, trusting relationships with individuals, their families, and external professionals.
  • Maintain accurate records of support provided, incidents, and progress towards personal goal outcomes.
  • Safeguard the welfare and rights of individuals, following organizational policies and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to provide consistent and high-quality support.
Person Specification

Essential:

  • Previous experience supporting people with autism, learning disabilities, or complex needs.
  • Compassionate, patient, and committed to supporting people with additional needs and autism.
  • Ability to work flexibly to cover annual leave.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, non-verbal, and written).
  • Reliable, trustworthy, and able to work as part of a team.
  • Willingness to participate in training (including safeguarding, autism awareness, and positive behaviour support).
  • Good organisational skills and time keeping.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of autism and associated conditions.
  • Full UK driving licence (if required for community access).
  • Relevant qualifications in Health & Social Care, (Care Certificate and/or Level 2 in adult Care).
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and CQC legislation.
  • Understanding of Challenging behaviour and Positive behaviour support
