Waiting List Validation Officer

We are looking for a Waiting List Validation Officer to join the General Surgery & Gastrointestinal Services team at Princess of Wales Hospital (POW) in Bridgend. The successful candidate will ensure accurate patient pathways on the Patient Administration System (WPAS), work effectively within the team, and contribute to the smooth running of NHS operations.

Main duties of the job
  • Planning and prioritising own day to day workload.
  • Sending out weekly lists to surgical specialities as appropriate and booking staff, clearly identifying patients listed who require immediate action.
  • Reviewing patient pathways and waiting list data, analysing and updating information in accordance with Referral to Treatment time (RTT) guidelines.
  • Support in setting up new activity on WPAS in accordance with demand and capacity and reporting requirements.
  • Provide sensitive waiting list information to managers.
  • Reporting any potential waiting list breaches in a timely manner.
  • Contacting patients to offer appointment and obtain availability for their care to be outsourced.
  • Responding to patient queries and telephone calls in a helpful and courteous manner, ensuring information is provided in a manner understandable by the caller where there may be cultural or language difficulties.
  • Communicating and updating the team about waiting lists and any potential difficulties with achieving and/or sustaining targets.
  • Making patient appointments as needed.
  • The purpose of the role should remain constant, but the duties and responsibilities may vary over time within the overall role and level of post.
Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 3 in a relevant subject, or possess skills, knowledge and experience to equivalency.
Experience
  • Experience of working as a secretary or similar medical administrative role.
  • Experience of working with NHS systems e.g., WPAS.
Skills
  • Welsh Language Skills (Level 3 and above/B2) are desirable for this role.
