Job summary

A community support organization is seeking Punjabi speaking Family and Carer Support Volunteers in London. In this role, you will offer support to families affected by substance misuse, provide a non-judgmental space for sharing experiences, and help create support groups. Applicants must be over 18 and able to commit to at least two days a week. This position requires an enhanced DBS check.

Qualifications

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Able to commit to a minimum of two days a week.
  • Subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Job description
Overview

We are seeking Punjabi speaking Family and Carer Support Volunteers.

Substance misuse issues can have a huge impact on everyone, especially the family, friends and loved ones of those misusing alcohol/drugs. Loved ones can be left feeling angry, hurt, isolated, stigmatised and ashamed.

As a family and carer volunteer you will use your own experiences of living with or supporting someone with substance misuse issues to promote hope and provide support to others. You will offer a safe, non-judgmental and friendly space where they can express their anxieties and share their experiences.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with Recovery Workers to identify carers who may benefit from additional support.
  • Take the lead on creating a support group, encourage members to get involved and have a say in how the group meets their needs.
  • Be a positive role model to the group, motivating and encouraging resilience to support themselves and their families.
  • Receive full training, supervision and ongoing support to undertake the role, including reflective practice / clinical supervision and day-to-day guidance from a team member on site.
Requirements
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Able to commit to a minimum of two days a week
  • Subject to an enhanced DBS check (via CGL) prior to appointment
