IT Expert Principal (Senior Architect / Tech Lead)

Location : Remote with occasional client visits (London / client sites as required)

Contract Type : Contract

Duration : ASAP – Throughout 2026

Day Rate : £600–£690 (dependent on experience) – inside ir35

Clearance : SC Cleared preferred (non-SC, clearable candidates considered)

Overview

We are seeking an IT Expert Principal with deep expertise in VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF 5.2) and readiness to operate across VCF9 environments. (we will train and cert you to VCF9) This is a senior consulting and technical leadership role, supporting large-scale, security-conscious enterprise and public-sector clients.

You will act as a lead architect / technical authority, responsible for design assurance, complex delivery, and client-facing leadership across VMware Cloud Foundation implementations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture, design and delivery of VMware Cloud Foundation solutions (VCF 5.2, with progression to VCF9)
• Provide technical leadership across vSphere, vSAN, NSX, vDefend and Aria Suite
• Drive automation-first approaches using Aria Automation, PowerShell, Python or JavaScript
• Support upgrades, optimisation and lifecycle management of VCF platforms
• Engage directly with clients, providing trusted technical advisory and design authority
• Produce high-quality architecture designs, low-level designs and knowledge-transfer materials
• Ensure solutions meet security, compliance and operational standards

Skills & Experience

• 5+ years’ experience delivering VMware Cloud Foundation solutions
• Strong hands‑on experience with VCF 5.x (VCF 9 exposure advantageous)
• VMware certification (VCF / VCP‑VCF highly desirable)
• Deep expertise across vSphere, vSAN, NSX, Aria Operations & Aria Automation
• Strong automation and scripting capability
• Confident stakeholder engagement in complex, regulated environments
• SC Clearance preferred (or demonstrably clearable)
