Job Description

Sky News is looking for a Video Journalist to join its award-winning digital team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a world‑class newsroom which excels in both breaking news video and premium content.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of researching, filming, editing and delivering video content and will have an understanding of what works across our various owned and operated platforms as well as our social media channels – both in terms of premium content and breaking news.

You will be full of ideas for creative treatments for stories Sky News is covering and will have exceptional news and legal judgement. We’re also looking for someone with ideas about how to use our talent and edit their content. You’ll also be a great writer and have a flair for scripts, headlines, thumbnails and sells.

This is a shift‑based role including earlies, lates and some weekends.

What you’ll do:
  • Create engaging digital video that works for each of our different platforms and social media channels
  • Pitch and produce creative treatments, angles and ideas for stories Sky News is covering or you think we should be covering
  • Have ideas about how to use our talent and shoot and edit their premium content
  • Collaborate and create striking thumbnails and headlines to help sell our video content particularly on our Sky News app and YouTube
  • Produce anything from premium long‑form content, to explainers and video analysis to breaking video news – you’ll work across the whole spectrum
What you’ll bring:
  • Have excellent news judgement and attention to detail
  • Understand what video treatments and sells work across our different platforms from headlines to thumbnails to the hook
  • Have experience of delivering clear, accurate scripts, captions and headlines for digital video content
  • Editorial and technical know‑how with video editing tools – proficient in Adobe, Final Cut, Avid or Quantel
  • Have ‘best practice’ experience and legal knowledge to critique and sign‑off sensitive video journalism
  • Creativity and a sense of ‘now’
  • Have experience of working in a newsroom and a recognised qualification in journalism and media law
The Rewards:
  • Access to NOW, for the TV you love all in one place
  • A generous pension package
  • Private healthcare
  • Discounted mobile and broadband
