Job description
Veterinary Surgeon - Own your own caseload with freedom to investigate
About us

Brislington Vets for Pets is a locally owned, bright, air‑conditioned surgery purpose built to industry leading standards and very well equipped with all the kit you’d expect from a thriving GP practice, as well as a class 4 laser, a vet‑tome, dental FireCR (dental radiology), a surgical suite and a dental suite. We’re also interested in further investments and are in the process of setting up new laparoscopy equipment too!

Our team

You’ll be joining a very experienced and skilled team, led by Practice Owner Gabriel who has a keen interest in surgery and is very near completion of a certificate in orthopaedics. Working alongside Gab are three other vets all of whom have been with the practice for over six years, one having left and then returned they love it so much, and one having been with the practice since day one – testament to the wonderful practice culture! Not only that but two of the team are already certificate holders, one in ophthalmology and another in imaging so there’s always plenty of learning and development opportunities for new vets joining us!

Our vet team are also supported by an equally talented team of three experienced registered Nurses, one student nurse, two VCAs, a practice manager, a deputy practice manager as well as a team of friendly and professional client care advisors. And again, two of our team have expanded their skills set and are also fully trained mental health first aiders.

Your day

We see a variety of cases and you’ll own your own caseload with the freedom to investigate, with lots of support from the rest of the team. Consults are given 15 minutes as standard, unless we’re quieter or more time is needed when we can book 30 minutes instead. There’s always time to catch up on admin throughout the day, time for a lunch break and once monthly we hold a more detailed clinical meeting too.

The role is full time, averaging 40 hours a week and including 1.5 weekends in every 5, with Mondays off following the weekend you work. There are no OOH.

About you

Ideally, we’d like our new colleague to have a minimum of one year’s experience in a UK small animal practice and be competent in routine procedures and all aspects of consulting and client care too. You’ll therefore also be a great communicator and enjoy building relationships with patients, clients and the wider team!

What’s on offer

In addition to joining a supportive, diverse and growing team where individual interests and CPD are encouraged, we are also offering:

  • Salary between £40,000‑£60,000 based on experience.
  • Generous CPD allowance – including funding towards certificates.
  • Paid memberships (including RCVS, VDS and BVA).
  • 5.6 weeks holiday.
  • Contributory pension plan.
  • Access to Colleague Assistance Programmes – Retail Trust, Port of Call and MHFA.
  • Exclusive company discounts and rewards through our reward hub – including 20% off at Pets at Home, The Groom Room and Vet Group.

The surgery is located on the outskirts of Bristol on the Bath Road, with plenty of green space and local amenities nearby and is very easily accessible with a bus stop in front of the surgery and plenty of free onsite parking.
