Exciting opportunity for an experienced stud vet to join our team at Fyrnwy Equine Hospital for the 2026 season! Fyrnwy Equine Hospital is a well-established 18 vet practice with a Tier 3 equine hospital and ambulatory branch, covering Shropshire, Cheshire and North Wales. The practice consists of European boarded specialists in surgery and medicine, as well as 2 equine nurses, 1 student vet nurse and 11 support staff members. We manage a mix of National Hunt Thoroughbred studs, sports horse clients and individual breeders.
The main duties include routine tasks associated with stud medicine in both Thoroughbred and Sports Horse populations, including embryo flushing and barren mare work‑up. Outside of the stud season, responsibilities extend to first‑opinion ambulatory practice, routine calls and emergencies, with freedom to explore areas of interest. Hospital‑based work‑up is encouraged, as is client liaison, electronic recordkeeping and high client satisfaction. Paid CPD allowance and opportunities for post‑grad qualifications are also part of the role.
You will share the out‑of‑hours rota (currently 1 in 7) with a second vet on call each weeknight and a separate stud rota for weekends. A day off in lieu is allocated for working a weekend.
Although advertised for the 2026 season, there is potential to start sooner. The hospital has state‑of‑the‑art facilities including a full surgical suite, MRI, portable DRs, ultrasound, gastroscopy, endoscopy, surgical laser, therapeutic laser and dental power tools.
