Job Description

As a VFM Audit Assistant Manager, you will support the delivery of high‑quality Value for Money reviews across a diverse client portfolio. You will take ownership of allocated projects or sections, manage delivery within agreed budgets and timelines, and contribute to impactful reporting. You will coach and support graduates, engage with stakeholders professionally, and uphold quality standards. This role is ideal for someone ready to take the next step in their audit career with a focus on leadership, development, and continuous improvement.

  • Support others, fostering a positive team culture and ensuring shared goals are met through teamwork and mutual support.
  • Support graduate work when assigned to you, ensuring clarity on roles and responsibilities.
  • Coach and support graduates, providing feedback and development opportunities.
  • Prepare and lead client interviews, supporting team members where needed.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with clients and colleagues.
  • Provide regular updates to the VFM Lead and Audit Team throughout the review.
  • Review work completed by graduates, ensuring integrity between documentation, key findings and evidence.
  • Address review points to a satisfactory standard and ensure cohesive team contributions.
  • Ensure compliance with internal deadlines, mandatory training and time recording policies, achieving the required quality grading each year and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Apply VFM methodology and tools effectively, contributing to best practice development and identifying and applying efficiencies where appropriate.
  • Role model inclusive and collaborative behaviours, contributing to a positive team culture.
Knowing you’re right for us
  • Recent experience in audit or assurance, ideally within a VFM or public sector context.
  • Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to coach and support junior team members.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Familiarity with audit methodologies including documentation and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Ability to work independently, managing priorities flexibly and delivering high‑quality work, while actively contributing to a collaborative team environment.
