AtkinsRéalis is looking to appoint a UK Technical Director for Building Services within our Building Design practice. This role leads our technical capabilities in building services, focusing on sustainability, building performance, and low carbon solutions, supporting our multi-disciplinary teams of Architects and Engineers to create inspiring buildings and places.

This position reports to the UK Practice Director and Professional Head of Discipline, influencing over 900 Engineers and Architects within our UK Building Design practice.

The role involves working on projects across sectors such as Residential, Blue Light, Education, Mission Critical, Aviation, Energy, Commercial Offices, Transportation, and Defence, ranging from individual buildings to city-scale solutions.

The Role:

  • Expertise in mechanical building services with experience in consultancy services for both private and public sectors, especially in the Buildings & Places market.
  • Focus on building design and environmental systems integration from project inception through detailed design.
  • Lead project development at concept stages, with regular reviews during design evolution.
  • Involvement in complex projects as needed, with support from regional Technical Authorities in setting standards and adopting new technologies.
  • The role can be based in any UK office, with hubs in London, Manchester, Glasgow, Bristol, Epsom, Leeds, Warrington, and Cardiff, embracing hybrid working policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Own technical quality, design standards, and project delivery processes.
  • Provide technical support to clients across various areas.
  • Stay informed on UK Government policies and industry initiatives related to Building Services.
  • Represent the company as a Subject Matter Expert in Mechanical Building Services.
  • Develop client relationships and manage key accounts.
  • Lead and motivate the Building Services team on projects.

Requirements:

  • Degree or equivalent in Building Services or Mechanical Engineering, Chartered status preferred.
  • Ability to influence senior management and industry peers, challenging decisions constructively.
  • Extensive experience in Mechanical Building Services design, compliance, and project delivery.
  • Strong leadership, people management, and communication skills.
  • Commercial awareness and results-oriented approach.
  • Customer-focused with excellent relationship management skills.
