Dates: July 2nd – July 29th 2026 (possibility of extension in some centres)

Position Overview
  • Responsible for planning and delivery of the academic program of EFL students

Requirements

Essential

  • UK passport / right to work in the UK and a valid DBS (England & Wales) or PVG (Scotland). If based outside the UK, provide a criminal record check from country of residence.
  • Proven suitability to work with students under 18: at least 2 references.
  • CELTA / Trinity CertTESOL qualification or a PGCE/QTS award related to YL/ESOL/English/Languages (or equivalent Ofqual recognised standards).
  • Other TEFL Level 5 certificates or TEFL certificates with proven observed experience considered.
  • Level 6 degree or equivalent qualifications/experience.
  • AccessTEFL in progress (portfolio).
  • Experience of teaching EFL classes (including teaching practice).

Desirable

  • DELTA / Trinity DipTESOL / MA TESOL completed or in progress.
  • Master’s Degree in ELT/TESOL (or related subjects).
  • EFL experience teaching teenagers.
  • EFL summer school teaching experience in the UK.
  • Enhanced DBS/PVG registered on the Update Service.
  • First Aid Qualification.

Schedule

Residential contracts are based on up to 42 working hours over a 7‑day session with one day off per week. Expected coverage: up to 36 contact teaching hours, 6 hours of meetings, administrative duties and CPD sessions. Occasional extension of working hours may be required.

Key Position Accountabilities

Teaching

  • Prepare lessons with pre‑made plans and adapt to class composition.
  • Liaise with co‑teachers.
  • Teach EFL lessons at levels indicated by the Director of Studies.
  • Inspire and motivate students to improve learning skills.
  • Differentiate learning and scaffold for mixed‑ability classes.
  • Provide varied teaching activities appropriate to student needs.
  • Support use of the TASKtime book to achieve learning goals.
  • Cover or assist teaching when necessary.
  • Assist with speaking level testing if required.
  • Co‑ordinate with the DoS/ADoS to implement the British Experience and integrate extra‑curricular activities.
  • Leave classrooms secure, tidy and return equipment.
  • Participate and contribute to weekly CPD sessions.

Administrative

  • Complete attendance registers promptly and inform the DoS of any absences.
  • Mark and record progress as instructed.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date teaching records (lesson plans, work covered).
  • Prepare professional student reports free of typos within agreed deadlines.
  • Liaise with the DoS for accurate student data.
  • Assist and support completion of student feedback.
Training & CPD

Complete all onboarding training and certificates prior to contract commencement. Attend in‑centre induction, participate actively in discussions and feedback, understand policies, adhere to handbook guidelines, set developmental goals, and engage in CPD sessions. Experienced teachers may guide peers for professional development.

Equipment & Facilities

Maintain teaching resources, keep premises neat, and report any damage promptly.

Safeguarding & Welfare
  • Provide safety and welfare assistance to students.
  • Be vigilant for possible welfare problems.
  • Inform the DoS of class absences immediately.
  • Report issues affecting student safety, wellbeing, and academic performance.
  • Be aware of fire, health and safety issues.
  • Comply with all health and safety procedures at MLA.
  • Promote student welfare and adhere to the MLA Safeguarding Policy.
Compensation

Residential teachers receive GBP 540 per week. Holiday pay (12.07%) will be added, inclusive of holiday pay up to GBP 605 per week. Residential rates include full board and lodging. Paid training and induction are provided. Returning teachers receive a bonus of GBP 150 after completing the full contract. Travel expenses will be covered if relocation to another centre is required.
